I read last week that if you owned GTA V you would receive a free separate upgrade

Rockstar
If you own it on steam you should have it in your Steam library.

Yes, there was a blue envelope thingy announcement in steam client too.
"Planned Release Date: 4 Mar, 2025" but already in the library.
Interesting that it's unlisted.

Yeah, I'm curious about what is with that. Maybe so the versions don't get confused before release

But this version what offer? Graphic Enhanced?

I believe so. Probably some lighting corrections, DLLS and other modern integrations. I think it would push me to pick it up again and play it. Also, you can't play online with those that don't own this Enhanced version.

Does that mean to have both the Enhanced and Legacy editions of the game downloaded on my computer, I'll just have a bunch of duplicate assets and it will be taking 200 gigabytes of room on my hard drive?

PC SUPPORT

Support for the previous version of GTAV will continue, allowing anyone whose hardware does not currently meet the minimum requirements of the new upgrade to keep playing. This also ensures that support for FiveM will continue uninterrupted while we work to extend support for it on the upgraded version.

Please note that to maintain this support, the original version of GTA Online on PC will be a separate instance, and players who remain on that version will not be able to play in sessions together with those on the upgraded version. PC Players who want to play with each other will need to ensure they’re playing the same version of the game. Both versions will be available to everyone who upgrades — and first-time purchasers will get access to both versions as well.

what about GTA V in Epic library?

Same story as with every other proprietary launcher. Platform clients of Steam or Epic are inconsequential and just additional hassle for users. Rockstar launcher must be opened where you have to authenticate and only after this step you'll be able to launch the actual game.

Still no confirmation, but Epic does not have pre-load functionality, so the enhanced edition might just show up as a new game on the launch day. Rockstar not naming Epic in the announcement is a bit concerning though, I hope it won't be a delayed launch, or worse, no free enhanced edition for epic gta V owners (due to it being given free before)

I have no idea on that. But I know the Epic version is the Premium Edition.

Actually, to come to think of it, the Rockstar launcher shows it is currently in the Legacy version. I don't see a pre-load option on there anyway. Doesn't matter. Come tomorrow, we'll see.

I think with Epic it will work (if it is going to happen) as the enhanced version showing up on library, and when installed there it will launch on rockstar launcher and then it will show up there, same as the now legacy version. But there is still a chance they will not give it for free on Epic due to the old giveaway (it is Take Two after all), we will see by tomorrow.

It's definitely in the library now! Had to uninstall the legacy version to make room to install the new version so I can try it out. I would definitely confirm the "free" upgrade is as promised.

Oh I see it too! Good to know that they didn't neglect people who own it from Epic Games

Currently there's both "Grand Theft Auto V" and "Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced" on Epic library.
Only "Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced" shows up on the store.

The "GTA V" title alone is basically the Legacy version. This was also the Premium edition. I do see the Enhanced edition added to the library, so at least I know I do officially have it.

I saw that too. Free up 25GB for other games and take the performance hit on a RTX2060, or leave as is ... decisions, decisions, decisions.

Isn't it not compatible with all the mods ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It hasn't even been released yet so yes, it isn't compatible. That is why they are keeping the Legacy version, they mention it is mainly for FiveM or whatever that mod that makes GTA RP, till they update the files for the Enhanced edition, but that do recognise there are a lot of other mods so keeping Legacy operation for a fair while it seems.

Beginning today, you can also preemptively migrate your Story Mode progress to the new version, directly from the Pause Menu inside GTAV Legacy on PC. Please note, you can update the Story Mode Save Game uploaded to Rockstar Games multiple times — overwriting the previously uploaded Save Game each time — but you can only migrate it to GTAV Enhanced once, and while you will be able to continue playing from where you left off in GTAV Legacy, progress cannot be copied back.
On March 4, once the free upgrade is available, you'll be able to migrate your Story Mode progress and GTA Online character progress from within GTAV Enhanced. The GTA Online transfer is also a one-time migration that does not delete your GTAV Legacy progress, but it cannot be reversed, and includes any Characters, GTA$, Progression, Stats, Vehicles, Properties, Weapons, Clothing, and Player-Created Jobs.
Players on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can still only migrate Story Mode and Online progress to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Profiles cannot be migrated between PlayStation or Xbox console families and PC.

Transfer of save files doesn't seem to have a time-limit, and from the looks of their comments about keeping Legacy around for a fair while you should be safe.

That's awesome. I don't think I'll have a problem with my gaming laptop, although I'm sure some people won't be able to run it but it's really cool that they are letting both version live on.

Just a note, future purchasers get the Legacy version on top of the Enhanced purchase, which is smart since i believe the Enhanced requirements are higher than for Legacy..

I thought i look for cheap keys for Legacy but i only found gifts and accounts or super expensive Steam keys.
