Buying?
Thought Harold Halibut would be a nice adventure game when it came out, but mostly also because my name is Harold but many reviews aren't positve.
But just mentioning with that given how 35 euro was kinda ridiculous they immediately gave a forum ban, they don't criticism lightly.

I played the game. I really, really enjoyed it. I strongly recommend it

The main thing is its closer to a kinetic visual novel with some open exploration than a classic puzzle adventure game. The main benefit of this is you can choose to do the side stuff or not if you don't care or do care about certain charaters. It's also a really slow burn.
I almost quit the game, but once I got to the midpoint where the story picks up, I was pretty hooked and the visuals and dialogue were really soulful in my opnion. I also just like the general situation where the people are in, the ship is really cool, and charaters feel really well written with great charater arcs
The only real puzzles you get is figuring out where you have to go to progress and if you care about the side stories, just going to the right places to build up those stories.

Its certainly not for everyone! Personally I enjoyed it, but it did drag on a bit.

I own almost everything here, so it's a skip, but there are some quality games in this bundle. Venba in particular was pretty heartwarming. I will say Dustborn is pretty cringey. Feels like it was written by teenagers for teenagers.

Ia that the game where you have the ability to "cancel" or "bully"? Yeah, it sounds cringe as hell.
Apparently it was made with the money of a grant by the Norwegian goverment, so the devs didn't have to care about quality

Draugen was from the same Devs, also used government funding and it turned out pretty good. The creator was also behind The Longest Journey trilogy, so he knows how to tell good stories. I'm not really sure what went wrong there, but he and his studio definitely aimed for quality. There's also the fact he has a particular sense of humour that's not everyone's cup of tea and maybe went too far with it in Dustborn.

I've played Draugen as well. It was a narrative mess. It started out as a horror game, but mid development switched to a walking sim. But they left a lot of what they had intended for it as a horror game in it for some reason despite it not really making sense in the context of a walking sim. And left all that stuff unresolved as well. Tons of potential, failed execution. Not a terrible walking sim by any means, but the story was a mess. I can't speak to the Longest Journey trilogy though.

I felt Draugen is, for the lack of a better word, experimental. They somehow tried to tell a story, by involving you in the story and keeping things vague, up to your interpretation as a player. It has somewhat a central plot that pushes things forward, but in the end it's not much of a story telling, rather an experience.
I enjoyed quite a lot all 3 titles from The Longest Journey Trilogy and the storyline is superior, especially in the 1st title, which was considered one of the best point-and-click adventures of all time and in my opinion a near perfect game. The only negative aspect I've heard from other players is that it has too much dialogue and a couple of puzzles that defy logic, but I feel they were nowhere near as obtuse as some from the Monkey Island series, where you wanted to try anything out anyway and watch how characters react. In the next titles they switched to another character and told her story, while focusing less on puzzles and more on dialogue, side-characters, a lot of walking around and light action/stealth sequences. They kept the bar high though for story-telling.
I haven't played Dustborn yet, so I'm really curious what happened that it turned out so bad.

From the game
"NORMALIZE - We've learned how to NORMALIZE negative emotions. NORMALIZE gives us the ability to make people think certain behaviors or feelings are normal...but I'm not sure it will do much for us in a fight."
"BULLY - We've learned to BULLY people. BULLY gives us the power to force people to do something they may not want to do, or to make them feel bad about themselves. In fights this could be highly effective on the targeted enemies."
"CANCEL - We've learned how to CANCEL someone. CANCEL will allow us to isolate people from their friends and compatriots. In battle, this could be a useful tool against enemies."
Dunno. Somebody that played the game would need to give opinions. It doesn't sound cringe, it sounds like psychos.

I have never seen so many people generally assume that something a character does or can do in a game is supposed to encourage you to do it in real life...
Surely the Grand Theft Auto devs are not hoping everyone becomes reckless thieves or murderous drug dealers?

I want Season and Harold, but I can't justify a bundle for those 2 (Harold is apparently just a walking simulator with ~7-8 hours of gameplay too)
Also, isn't Dustborn the most hated game of last year? I swear I remember seeing it getting roasted everywhere

"Harold is apparently just a walking simulator" i really liked it. It's more a graphic adventure than a walking simulator.

I just quickly glanced over the reviews of the game, I don't know anything about it but it's been on my wishlist for a while too, that's why I always take reviews (especially steam ones) with a grain of salt.
If it's more like a graphic adventure than a walking simulator, sounds 100% better for me :)

I think the main disappointment is anyone who comes into it expecting something like Monkey Island or The Neverhood, The word "adventure" is usually associated with those kind of games too, and there is an expectation of collecting items and problem solving. Harold is really more about the narrative and character interactions, stripping out almost all aspects in terms of puzzles, problem solving and narrative choices.
I think that's fine and liked it in the end though. It's more about telling the various stories of the people who have left earth and have been living on a space ship, some even born on that very ship and how their life is. There's also the mysteries and conspiracy theories that come up in the game that keep you hooked and I really loved how they were written and resolved. It just felt really grounded and personal.

I'm all down for good stories, even if they are extremely slow, as long as they make sense and aren't repeating the same story with each character, just with different words in the mix

Ideally we should dive into a game knowing as little as possible, well knowing enough to decide whether to play it or not.

Great game selection quality wise, but a bit niche. Value wise, a bit of a mixed bag, it probably helps if you are into story driven-games and don't mind paying more then usual for the top-shelf ones. Still beats buying the games individually, at least at this point.

Harold Halibut looks great.
Too bad it's in T3, too expensive to pay for it.
