Looks like all physical Prima game guides are half off this week at GameStop (sale ends Tuesday Aug 22). Some may have already had the regular price lowered so the 50% off is on top of that. Some highlights:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition - Collector's Guide (Hardcover) - $15
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Complete Edition - Collector's Guide (Hardcover) - $15
The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind - Collector's Edition (Hardcover) - $15
Prey - Collector's Edition Guide (Hardcover) - $20
Mass Effect Andromeda - Collector's Edition Guide (Hardcover) - $20

  • code for digital eGuide accessible via the Prima website also included with most if not all guides
  • pick up at a local store to avoid shipping as some of these are quite massive

[Full list here] - all platforms

  • unreleased/pre-order guides are not discounted

Yes, we all know you can just Google everything. Some people still like having these things though.

You're right, it would be pointless to go to a store that doesn't exist in one's country, nor ships to it. This post was for people who have actually have such a store.

It's a bit weird that when it comes to movies I'm not really bothered by spoilers but whenever someone mentions game guides my subconscious screams SPOILER ALERT!

I guess they are good for people that are concerned about efficient playtime but at the same time, I have a hard time imagining what information they could contain that's not available on a wiki or some such. Also considering how many games these days are shipped in a, let's say, questionable state and can change quite substantially over time, are printed guides even relevant after a few patches?

Same problem with the achievement guides - I don't remember the game but there was one when you just looked through the achievements it spoiled plot twists by it's name :D

Indeed. This is one of the many negative aspects of achievements in games

Edit: I guess I'm not that bothered about story or plot spoilers in games either but figuring out how stuff works is a major part of my enjoyment of games

I'm not into printed game guides myself but I can understand the appeal.

There are completionists who play through the game purely for enjoyment first and then play it again for completion (achievements, alternate endings, easter eggs, etc). For these people a printed guide provides the convenience of not having to Alt+Tab (or Shift+Tab) out of the game every time.

Also there are games where it's so easy to f**k up when you make a wrong choice or move, and sometimes you will only realize it way further down the road and there's no way to correct your mistake except reloading from saved game (if you know exactly where you messed up and an earlier save still exists) or starting a whole new game. One such game that comes to my mind is Fallout 3.

Some people also just like them as reading material or for nostalgic purposes. I will say this too: just my opinion but I feel like something gets lost with the digital version of stuff like this vs physical. Not that I really collect them but the same goes for comic books and it's just cooler and more interesting to have a physical version. Call me oldschool but with some things I'd rather have printed matter in my hands over reading on an electronic screen.

Would it also work as a coaster for mugs with hot beverages like tea or cocoa?
I guess if it's hardcover it should be fine...

Can't say I have ever been there but I understand you have a place called Game instead, which I would imagine is similar.
