THANK YOU ALL!!

I will locking the discussion and bookmarking it for future references. I may unlock it or make a new one later on <3 <3 <3

I will try to give these away twice a month. Please recommend more if its not on the list.

If the game has DLCs and its not going to go over by an outrageous amount, I will probably gift all the DLCs with the game.

Normally, not a bad thing.
Paying 45 dollars for a wallpaper, ringtone, and some novellas is crazy though. I am okay with donation-like DLCs that give essentially the same thing many GOG games do for free, but not by doubling the game price.

Comment has been collapsed.

But why? It's not like you're loosing out on anything particularly important by not paying the exorbitant price in this case. I kind of like when they (game makers) add junk as DLC/Deluxe/Gold packages since it let's people decide if they want to be extra supportive without loosing out, kind of like with cosmetic uhm... what's the name again... well those in game purchased items.

Waddayaknow, the fad of the month is winning. What a surprise. :)
Although I am pretty surprised that the battle royale game is not the second one, considering it is bound to be the top spot on the community wishlist.

By the way, speaking of which, you could maybe add previous month's fad of the month as well:

Comment has been collapsed.

I am indifferent. It is just funny to see how the public opinion seems to always mean "latest 60+ dollar game". In 2 weeks, this poll would most likely have another game getting 50% of the votes.
Many of these AAA games build a genuine fan base that play them. But also you can see that the majority seems to only want them because they are promoted, not because they actually want to play them. And as the marketing fades, they just jump onto the next similar game, over and over again. This is why the community wishlist is almost acting like a timeline of which AAA games were released after each other, as the new ones push back the few-month ones gradually.

I tend to find a game that I want to find everything. It takes me a few months with my limited time to beat games but I get at least everything completed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is a common mindset, but mostly among those who can afford to do it. And the largest portion of the user base of SG is, by sheer definition of what this site does, not like that. They just want to get their hands on anything they can. Often because it is their only chance to get a decent game, but also because of basic human greed of getting anything that costs much, even if they actually find no use to it. This is why whenever I drop some higher-value game to the public, it is because I literally don't give a single fuck about it and fully expect it to rot untouched in a library at best, end up being sold at worst (happened… not even once).
but in the extremely low occasions when it is actually played and to at least completion… then those few moments among hundreds of others make it worth it a bit.
(I just don't really have the money now to continue doing it.)

I feel ya. Commission checks I get go towards what I do here.

Comment has been collapsed.

Too much tempting, after all. For example, that Stellaris key could be sold for 30 dollars. I could eat for 4-5 days for that. Selling a key for 50 bucks could mean a week's worth of living costs in some SEA territories. This entire concept is walking on thin ice, especially with nearly a million people in here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ya, I liked how SG was back in the early days or at least when I was here 3 years ago. If only there was a guaranteed way to not get the key sold.

Comment has been collapsed.

You can increase the odds by adding the winner on Steam, set up a chat session, and give the thing there directly, casually stating that the entire conversation is screen-captured. It is only viable if you are doing this in small doses though.
The added bonus is that some bot accounts are so bot accounts that they will never accept the invitation, so you can get a reroll after a week of non-response. :D

I might start doing this with the bigger title games. Plus I tend to gift items instead of keys.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But of course, people tend to want what's new and expensive. To be honest though, most of the well marketed AAA productions are very good games generally so if only for that reason it wouldn't be particularly surprising if one of them ended up on top of an aggregated wishlist

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, that may be a bit subjective though. Sometimes those well-marketed games really tend to sell based on marketing alone, leaving with a… questionable end product. coughNoMansLiecough

There's always exceptions yes. Also from what I can tell it's getting worse with time, as in well marketed "big" titles are not as good as they used to be

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Like the general outcry against Assassin's Creed: New Orleans (a.k.a. Mafia 3), the abysmal PC launch of Arkham Knight (which, I think, is a stunning-looking but boring as hell game, a stark contrast to previous ones), or how Bungie's billion-dollar Destiny had to buy a game of the year award with its stellar 65% rating and spend another few dozen millions on mostly revamping half the game mechanics before people started to bitch about the terrible grind mechanics?
Oh, and don't we forget the pre-sale hype machines like the ability to get Deus Ex. Mankind Divided Four. Days. Early! if enough people dump 100 dollar pre-orders on poor Square?

To be honest though, the problem is that games, especially graphics engines and animations are way too expensive to make now, since the PS2 era of consoles just started to put way too much emphasis on stellar visuals on games where the play time was 10-20 hours at best, so people will buy more of them instead of playing one title for half an eternity. And those need returns somehow. It is literally like the movie industry, where Hollywood just sees it safer to release the tenth sequel or reboot of an action franchise as it at least dependably brings the money from the casual Sunday crowd.

It's normally only the lower level / bad ratio people you have to worry about. SGTools should be able to help with that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Then I am sorry to say but dropping it to level 0 public means a roughly 80%-ish chance that it will end up at a bot account.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I plan on using SGTools and setting it to at least Level 1+ or Level 3+. I have noticed with my past giveaways, its just easier to have it not be completely public.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

SGTools, if you set up the custom rule well enough, could be good even at level 0. Not all level 0 accounts are half-automated game key siphons for the grey market, only an alarming percentage of them. It is just tricky to first come up with a rule that you'd say it satisfies your needs and plans. (My new standard one is, for example, long as hell.)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you dont mind. I think I will use that to my standard for level 0 giveaways.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Feel free. Although you may want to check the numbers since maybe you don't agree with some values; for example, how I am a lot more lenient with group giveaway percentage over region-locked ones, or that maybe considering 250 dollars worth of wins (at raw price, not CV) too much/little for level 0.

It's common knowledge that an SGTools level restriction between the levels of 7,02 and 7,05 yields the most serious participants ;)

Hey Ryahn, just passing by to share two hopefully helpful tidbits:

  1. I was looking at your list, and saw at least one place where you could reduce potential costs. The "Witcher 3 GOTY Edition" is slightly less expensive than the "regular + pass", the content being exactly the same on both. It's just a small difference, but it's something.

  2. I read that you just returned to SG, and saw that you have only 5 wins... just to let you know that there is a group meant to help anyone who has less than 8 wins reach that number. Even if you don't care much about wins, it is only fair that SG tries to at least offer something back to you for your generosity. You can check the group in question here.

Thank you for the info :)

Bit of a rant
I might look into it. I tend to not be part of groups. The only time I join one, is to see what they are doing and try to give away to those guys.

Otherwise, no offense to any of them, most of the groups still give away shit games or something I already own. So its something I have come to terms with.

Well, I understand your point-of-view, especially since your focus seems to be far more centered on other people's joy (and for that I salute you, it is not the most prevalent outlook out in the world).

Also, important to point out that I have no affiliation with UL7, simply had a positive past experience (which is, to be fair, circumstantial). Please be sure to take all the precautions that Talgaby and Mully mentioned elsewhere on this thread (both their experiences are far vaster than mine, but even I have witnessed many of the pitfalls they described).

Wish you an awesome day, and a clear path :)
