Lucky if your game doesn't fail to launch after recent updates downloaded because even Windows doesn't show the supposed solution to let you play it again :/

There is one possible problem that can be solved by downloading DirectX runtimes from https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Weirdly enough, you technically didn't need to download it.

I found out the hard way going through the hoopla of the account creation (which is not handled in-game), then the character selection until i got to the part to be able to find the "in-game" store, and it just actually directs to a webpage (which is also not in-game). I probably could've cut half my time had I known. It's not well advertised.

The game client redirects you to the store including a session token. Without a valid session token you can't open the store page.

I understand session tokens. That's not what I'm talking about. I was referring to the fact you didn't need to download the whole game and play through it to get to the store. I was basically describing the fact the in-game store doesn't actually exist. It's external. It was a waste of time to have to go through the whole intro just to find out the store isn't even in game.

You can access the ingame store before creating a character, and you can also access it from the intro. Yes, there is an external webpage for the store for when the ingame store is not working for some reason.

The important thing is...did you get your freebie?? :D

You at least needed to download, install and launch the game client, since there is no other way to get the session token needed to open and use the store page. That's what I was talking about.

I know what you were talking about, but you're not paying attention to the nuance and context of what I was saying.

The guy asked "so, it appears i need to download and play the game to get to the store?"

I directly replied to that stating that one evidently didn't need to download the game as I had found out the hard way. I didn't say you didn't need the client. I was describing the fact there wasn't an in-game store since that was misleading.

Cut the smugness. It makes you look like an asshole if you're right and like an idiot if you're wrong.

.

.
I directly replied to that stating that one evidently didn't need to download the game

And in this context you are plain wrong. No nuance.

The 45MB launcher which you can download from their site does not have a link to the store. You have to wait for the whole ~14GB game client to download and install and then login via the launcher and launch the game.

Only there - from the game's start menu - you can access the store. It either opens within said start menu (yes, there IS an ingame store) or if that doesn't work (which happens frequently), it will generate a session token and open the store in your browser using said token. You CAN NOT access the store otherwise.

And if you get it through Steam, it downloads almost the whole game except for a few patches anyways before you even get to the launcher. And then you have to launch the game as well to access the store.

So: yes, you absolutely DO need to download, install and launch the whole ~14GB game client to access the store. The only things you don't have to do is create a character and actually play the game.

I didn't say you didn't need the client.

The client IS the game you claimed one didn't need to download.

Your failure to read is not my problem. You're the smug one mansplaining after I had already described what went on.

In this context I'm convinced you're here to troll.

Do i need to go through character creation before i can claim the free quests?

was hoping to hop in with some friends and plan out roles and all that before i start creating my character

You can open the DDO Store at the main menu, so you can claim the code before the creation of your first character. You will have to click on "Get now" or "Buy account upgrades", or any link that screams "buy me, buy me !".

If you and your friends think you can enjoy the game, it can be a good idea to claim also the four expansions sold for only 99 DDO Points each (instead of about 2000) during this event (until April 23).
You can buy these 396 points with real money, or you can get them for free by doing this : create a character on one of the eight servers, do the intro, do the first three quests in Normal mode (not Casual mode), boom, you get 50 points in about 30 minutes if you rush it (take your time the first time though, read, explore).
Repeat this on every server, and you will get 8 times 50 points, just enough to buy the four expansions with little time and effort.
For the record, these free DDO Points are related to the Favor system and rewards, I let you check on the DDO Wiki if you want to find more info about it. Be warned that the first 400 points are easy and quick to get, but that's a one time reward. After that, it will be more time-consuming to get more of them for free..

It could have a problem with either your username or your password. Your current username looks fine (if that is what you are using). I would try a simpler password to start with.

Here you can see plenty of examples of the usernames in the forums. https://forums.ddo.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/37-General-DDO-Discussion

Did you try a different username? Granted, it has been a while since I have created an account.

ETA: I found this in the forums. Worth a try:
"I had this same issue earlier. I would attempt to make a new account and it would wipe my username and password and claim my username is bad. I discovered after numerous tries, that the username follows the same rules as the password creation. At least 1 capital letter, at least 1 lower case letter, and at least 1 number, all within 15 words. This worked for me when I found it out, hope it helps you."

ok so now my problem is the email (already used for lotro) i get back my account and password name from standing stone games after 2 attempts finally can log in web browser , but impossible to log ingame dunno if i need to wait x)
it's feels very very old

edit: ok so i have already the account from lotro but no subscription for ddo , 2 options open a ticket and ask the support , or making another account i did that (and i understand the error from username , just already exist but they didn't mention that clearly , it's a pain lol

second edit : ok logged , i redeem the code but not create a character , got a error message about unable to liver items " hope will be good the day i will play .

I have one alt account that uses (slightly) different e-mail addresses for DDO and LotRO. The rest I used the ticket to support to just add the other game. Both kinds work fine. Was it the DUNGEONCRAWL code you redeemed, or a different store code? It might not be a bad idea to make one character just to see if it works all right. However, if you just go into the store, click on your username in the top right corner, and select history, you should be able to see what your code got you. You should have also received an email from xsolla or the like that confirms what you got.

Bump as the code expires tomorrow.
One code to unlock a huge, huge part of the game for free in a matter of seconds for hundreds hours of content. And if you think you can enjoy the game, four expansions are currently at 99 DDO Points each instead of 2495. Points that you can farm for free in about 2-3 hours. See my message above.
That's 200-400$ worth of content depending of the offers and promotions.

Below is the list of all of the adventure packs currently in the game. Each gives about 4-10 quests (and each quest in this game is a dungeon, not a "talk to X" or "bring me Y feathers" type of MMO quests). In the last column, a color to see what you will have and what you will miss.
In green, what will be unlocked with the code Dungeoncrawl.
In blue, the four discounted expansions if you farm/buy the 4x99 DDO Points required until tomorrow. (One expansion is split into three adventure packs, hence there is six adventure packs in blue).
In yellow, I'm not sure. It seems to be unlocked on my account, but reading the Wiki, I think it shouldn't be. But anyway, that's two very special adventure packs, two challenge dungeons, which requires to be VIP, or to buy store tokens or one daily free token to enter the challenges).
You'll just miss the four adventure packs in white. These are two expansions, a third smaller expansion, and one regular adventure pack.

downloaded the non-steam-launcher,
could not create an account.

OK, created my account with another email adress different from LOTRO (would never have come to the the idea myself, still can't read it out from the picture above).
Redeemed the code in the ingame shop, before character creation. Browsershop no token.

Thanks alot!

Since you have a new account, you can score the first-time favor bonus on each server (5 favor = 50 store points). There are eight servers, so that would be 400 store points rather quickly to buy the four expack contents on sale for 99 points each.
Just need to make a character and run one quest on elite or three quests on normal on each server before the sale ends. :D

If you had more time to wait, the usual approach is to contact Support for a free key to add to your account. As the deadline is so close, using a new address was the best option.
I have an alt account with a gmail address, so the new address I used to get a LotRO account just had a period in the name. XD

Can't get the bloody thing to download, and time is running out - I'm gonna shut this down and skip it.
It just stops at 52% of the first file and nothing happens - I do a pause/restart and it continues.
Then is stops again at 98% of the first file, and now pause/restart makes the file start download from the beginning again, with same stops again.
Tiresome.

Yeah, I'm not going to try this anymore, have uninstalled it and won't return there either I think.
