Hello there!
Please read this description.
I would like to play some FPS games (pc or ps3) that are set in modern day or near future. I'm not looking for fantasy games because I have plenty of them, so don't wanna shoot monsters, zombies, mutants, demons, nazis or aliens. And I'm not interested in historical shooters this time.
First of all, yeah I'm not stupid, I know there are plenty of COD games but they have awfully short campaigns.
I'm only willing to play single player games, no multiplayer or mmo.
Let me write a few lines about games I played recently.
I really liked
¤ Medal of honor 2010 and Warfighter
¤ COD 4 and Advanced Warfare (other COD campaigns are meh)
¤ Battlefield Bad company 1 and 2
¤ Homefront 1
¤ Frontline: Fuels of war
¤ Operation flashpoint: Red river (dragon rising is awful)
I think these games are very awesome, however the campaigns are sooo goddamn short.
I hated Battlefield 3 campaign because it was laughably short and was nothing special, and I did not even bother finish the BF4 campaig because it was boring as f. I played Rogue Warrior too, it's nowhere bad as people say but I got bored of it. Currently I'm playing Goldeneye reloaded on PS3.
I'm not looking for games like ARMA. I've tried all the three but that's not the gameplay I'm looking for. I don't need this pseudo-realism. I prefer the "arcade" fps where I don't have to bind every single key on my keyboard.
Recently I fell in love with this modern war setting, I was reading the Battlefield 3 and 4 books, and dayyyum they are so incredible awesome, unfortunately the games are nowhere near to that quality.
Anyway, you can recommend me cop games too like the SWAT series or The regiment, or Rainbow six vegas.
I'm not a graphic whore at all but I prefer games that's been released at least in 2005.
Thank you for reading it, and thanks for all the replies.

Meanwhile my cat was walking over my keyboard and left this message here:

Spec Ops: The Line or Far Cry 2 or 3 would be my recommendations for 'modern, non-fantastical' shooters.
They're basically the only ones I've ever had interest in, as I stay away from [non-co-opable] world war/modern warfare shooters [without creative license involved in the content] as a rule.

I've played spec ops but it was a pain to play it through. Certainly had it's moments but overall I hated the repetitive gameplay

Thanks, I was thinking about giving it a shot, but I don't think I wanna waste my dosh on less than 10 hour campaign games anymore.

Then you're going to have a hard time finding shooters I'm afraid :( Shooters have always been short, with Half-Life really being exceptionally lengthy for a shooter. <8h has been the norm since DOOM (Wolf 3D was longer, but it was really easy to make levels for that, DOOM was a <4h game, Quake was <5h)

Or MGSV
I really liked this one. Lots of options but unfortunately can be a bit repetitive

Spec Ops: The Line, though it's third person and it's focused more on the story than gameplay.
You don't really have to kill animals in Far Cry 2, though it's much more boring than 3 and I couldn't finish it.

Thanks I've played both Far Cry games you mentioned and I really liked the second but it's not what I'm looking for. I would like to play war themed games with soldier stuff like BF or COD, but with longer campaigns

So, how about Homefront The Revolution, I was so amazed with its first version, Homefront but unfortunately, it's too short XD
Or perharps, full of Doom series, I'm real fan of Doom origin, but the new DOOM is too expensive :"3, maybe on sale !

IMAO, it wasn't really good.. and it was so buggy.
Plus, I kinda have a feeling they copied the story from CoD: MW or something. Both stories are kind of cliche.

Rainbow Six 3 (Awesome game, and I could not help but feel deeply disappointed by later installments (Lockdown & Vegas))
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (Would have been an alright game, had the AI not been utterly unable to deal with how I play games, and of course bugs (It's a ubisoft game after all)).
Slightly older but the Delta Force series is always an option.

The first two Soldier of Fortune games, were a lot of fun. But they're old, and impossible to find (legally speaking).

Modern war, Singleplayer campaign?
CoD 6: Modern Warfare 2, CoD 8: Modern Warfare 3. That's it.
You've played others already, and these two are the last bits. Oh and maybe Black Ops 2 I guess.
Maybe CoD games are horribly short, but there isn't anything else if you're looking for something at least decent.

You have awful taste in games... All those games you listed are just as bad (in the case of Medal of Honor Warfighter even worse) as CoD. The ONLY military shooter that's set in modern times that I could ever recommend is Spec Ops The Line. But since it's a third person shooter, it's not what you asked for. But seriously, it's the ONLY GOOD one. And the campaign actually has a respectable length.

And you are a fucking moron. Who are you to judge my taste, seriously? You are telling me that Spec ops is the only good one? Why? It's nothing but a mediocre repetitive shooter, basically one of the worst games I've ever played, and the endings doesn't help it. Respectable lenght lol, it was about 8 hours long, if that's what you respect then you have issues dude. You have no valid arguments.
There are people who are playing goat simulator and poop in my soup, I still don't judge their taste, because everyone is different, and no need to be an asshole about it.

I enjoyed Call of Duty: Black Ops (the first one) a lot, because it has a lot of historical elements but it's not focused on one thing (like a war) in particular. It has several missions in very different areas and contexts, following an interesting story from different characters' points of view.
There are many weapons with several attachments, and some missions have 'modern' mechanics, like calling helicopter support, shooting a guided rocket, supporting a land team from an airplane...
