So... if you have a running giveaway for one, you may need to delete. And if you're trading for one, beware. And if you already traded for one and didn't activate it... whoops!

I just won one....
now I have to decline the gift and hope the gifter will request a reroll...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

why reroll? it's locked, and the next guy will most likely have the same problem like you. unless he is willig to buy the game for 20$, the giveaway is unsuccessful, gift not received - end of story. ;)

Does seem a little harsh for something that's clearly Ubisoft's fault. Hate to give people bad feedback for something they couldn't control.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

the thing is, that if you give positive feedback instead, you might get some problems yourself (suspension for not activating a won game). if there is a reroll, the next poor guy has to make that decision. it really makes sense to mark it as not received. thats not the end of the world for the ga creator.

Yeah, how dare they not want everyone taking advantage of a pricing error. In my opinion, this happens so much in Russia that all games sold there should be restricted to RU only.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, how dare they do that to all those 'supporters' who bought the game on release day for about 20 fucking cents. Hell, I could walk down my street to the nearest 7-eleven convenience store and there's probably a good chance I could find $0.20 by scouring the parking lot. Fuck all these people who have a problem with it. Ubisoft did what they had to do to protect their interests.

Is using a proxy server in one of those countries to activate it legal?

"You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, we may terminate your access to your Account."

It's against Steam rules, but there's mostly nothing illegal about it :)

Good luck suing Valve thought if they ban for it.

And what if u would make holiday at your russian friends, and activate this game there? That not against the rules, or?

Finally it's hard to difference if u where in this country or used a proxy. Steam wants to see your travel tickets afterwards?

Does the regional lock also affect gifts that someone buys now for RUB?
Iยดm just curios, cause he/she would anyway pay more than someone with Euro or Dollar.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, the lock is there as well. So it's impossible now to buy not locked version for rubles.

Can this be pointed out on giveaways or will it be regarded as calling out ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As long as you're not outright 'hey this is probably an RU copy!!!!' and just giving a friendly warning to the poster more then anything I think you're fine.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The problem is, I was already suspended for a polite remark that was regarded as calling out.

The support staff member replied that it doesn't matter if it's polite or not, so I suppose being friendly won't change anything in this case either.

I already deleted a comment pointing to this thread because honestly, who in their right mind would risk a suspension for being friendly and trying to save some stranger a headache?

Same happened to me once as well. A few people on the staff here have been assholes and probably always will be, and rather than make a real effort to deal with issues that plague the site they instead hide behind some antiquated rules (using them as a cop out) that don't adapt to the changing needs of the site and expect you to have to wait up to 2 months or more in what has been a ridiculous ticket backlog. I think it goes without saying that that is not an okay situation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I wouldn't use such drastic wording, but I noticed that as well. So-called "calling out" posts in giveaways are usually dealt with within minutes while on the other hand people complain about long ticket waiting times with the moderators saying they can't dedicate the whole day to this site. Something doesn't fit here. :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed. And I get the part about not wanting to spend all of your time on the site, I know people have lives -- but they also didn't do themselves any favors by failing to bring in any new people to help out with the backlog and duties and to keep up with the growing user base. To me that should have been done several months ago, if not longer, and instead they sat on their hands.

Edit: 1 new person was brought onboard recently but that's not enough.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's because calling-out posts are easy to handle (when reports come in, you just look at it, see if it's breaking the obvious clearly-defined rule, and suspend / ban based on history if they are.)

Tickets are probably, generally, a lot more difficult, because there's a lot more variance from ticket to ticket, and a lot more thought required as a result.

Fortunately a friend gifted it to me yesterday and I activated it right away.

I hope they don't add IP restrictions retroactively as I just played and it worked fine.
