Almost a year ago I made a thread (here) where I posted some of the stuff I do whenever I actually do stuff with the intention of not letting it die out due to procrastination... of course I just stopped updating after some weeks.
Anyway, I've been trying to do pixel animations recently and would love some feedback. Any sort of feedback would be appreciated.
I have two in video form: video 1 & video 2. And also some gifs in my deviantart profile.

Thanks for taking a look :)

PS: There's no giveaways this time, sorry, my stash of keys runned out months ago and I haven't bought a bundle in a long time nor I plan to untill I can justify frivolous spending again (assuming this crisis ends some day instead of our money depreciating itself into oblivion like it's doing right now).

Hot damn, that's really cool stuff and some serious attention to detail. It seems the "crisis" hasn't been all bad for you.
I'm truly envious of your skill. :)

Nice work man, pixel art is always great when done right. I recently got into Vector art myself since I can't afford a nice graphics tablet monitor to draw properly. Started off basic just doing a cartoon drawing of a 1970 Challenger, then moved up to Lenore from Castlevania, and have been doing all sorts of different stuff since, getting used to it more, so in due time I can start making art for a game.

Edit: And sorry, not trying to hijack your post, I just enjoy sharing art with other artists, just as I love talking about music with others who love same music. xD

Wow, that looks nice. Wish I could draw people like that but back in school I only learned technical drawing so when I started doing it for fun a couple years ago I quickly ran into a wall and that's why I went with pixel art.
I don't mind you "hijacking" the post, I also like talking about this stuff. Mind if I ask what program you use? I only know Inkscape for vector graphics but only really used it once to make my current avatar.

Honestly, with Vector Art, I'm sure you could probably pull it off. I myself can draw by hand, but have never been good with colour, and I've tried many times on PC in stuff like Photoshop over the years, but unless I go buy like a $700+ drawing monitor, I'm not gonna pull it off, and I can't afford to spend that just to draw. With Vector tho, it's all mathematical, working with node positioning which you can modify/alter at any time. Since it's mathematical too, no pixels, so you can scale your art to all different sizes without issue. Though you can still export to pixel formats.

I use Affinity programs, this one is Affinity Designer, an alternative to Adobe Illustrator. I also use Affinity Photo as my alternative to Adobe Photoshop. They're both missing a few features from Abobe products I wish were available, DDS file format being my biggest want, but I still have an old Photoshop I can use for that. Just don't like Adobe's business model anymore, too expensive. Got these programs for $35 each on sale (normally $70), one time payment. Do note though, all my prices are Canadian Dollar, it's cheaper for US naturally.

Here's an example of the pic with nodes. It's all put together using a pen tool on smart mode so it will create curves between nodes. You can select each node and move it around, or alter the curve intensities. So I just create layers for each shape, face, hair, cloak, etc etc, then do more layers for shading and outlines.

Wow, cool work indeed, both on the videos and on DA! As Tzaar said, great attention to detail.

Glad you didn't let procrastination stop you from doing pixel art and animations, the results of your commitment are commendable! Onward to even greater heights :)

Those pixel animations has this special atmosphere of 80's and 90's. Love it!

LOW BATTERY!!

Noooo. I want to play that game!

The only criticism (not even that) I have is when viewing the first one, I was drawn to the 'wavering' legs of the person by the river, until I figured out it wasn't their legs but the grass. Seriously good stuff though.

Huh, that didn't cross my mind, it can really be seen that way. Thanks for the tip!

BTW, I intend to keep completing the assets for a whole level of 1 bit Sonic, if I manage to I'd love to have a prototype for next year's SAGE cos I haven't seen this particular take before. No concrete promises for now cos I have no experience in making games and have no clue of how hard it might turn out.

Pretty cool stuff honestly. I really enjoy art like the first video where there's all sorts of tiny details all over the image to look at.

If there's anything I'd say could be worked on, I would maybe say that some of your animations can look a bit stiff, like when shifting from one animation to another. But overall it's still great.

Keep up the good work!

I've noticed that too but I wasn't sure if it was just me staring at it for too long, I'm still trying to figure out how many frames are necesary for each movement. I've heard about key frames and in-betweens but I guess it's something that becomes clear with practice.

Thanks for the feedback :)

I recommend looking into the key principles of animation, although it might apply differently in the context of pixel art. Like there's a quite a bit of knowledge to gain regarding animation (similar case with art and music as well).

Loved the first video, it's so cozy, I can easily imagine myself enjoying an adventure game or an RPG with visuals like this.

Funny, the original file was called "Mini adventure" untill I figured out a direction for it :P
I even made some walking animations for the character before deciding to have her just look at the river.

I've been planning to do animated scenery too, but too busy doing....nothing.

Really amazed once again by your skills and creativity. I loved watching the first one (so peaceful!) so much that I was kinda bummed it wasn't a longer loop lol. Loving the details like the smoke rising from the mug. Nicely done.
As for the second one, it's nothing short of brilliant! Well done and super fun to watch. Kudos really.

wow, that's some straight up professional looking stuff. i've always wished i were good at drawing, or anything creative really, but i have practically zero talent when it comes to art of any kind. no imagination i guess? it's always blown my mind how people can create things like that. i could totally see your talent/work being used for game design if that's what you're interested it. it really looks like you know what you're doing. go for it. be confident and don't give up. best of luck to you.

i really like the "game eco" (game.com). after much begging, my parents got me one when i was a kid and i thought it was the coolest thing ever although i only played the built-in solitaire game 99% of the time. i even had a gameboy, but i guess the touchscreen was too neat to pass up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
