I live in Switzerland and I never had any problems with "surveillance", since I always thought it's for catching bad guys. But the Post on Reddit .... damn that is SCARY!
Can't tell you if Switzerland would ever go so far ...
Information the Government can have about me: Fingerprints, DNA, identification, passport and my tax incomes

Interesting points on both side. Hard to say when protection crosses the line into privacy invasion. On a lighter but still remotely related note:

I don't see why people concerned so much that the government spy on you, it's not like they gonna sell your information, give it to other people or blackmail you with it, the only thing they do is monitoring, and if you think that the government would do something about you after seeing what you do then it only means you deserve it and that it's for national security. Really, most of the information on the internet private faces store them and even hackers can break in and see/use them and people worry about their own government monitoring the same thing.

If the government is interested in what games I play or what kind of porn I wank myself blind to then no wonder the world's in the fucking mess it is right now.

I was under the impression that political topics here are against the rules.

In case I'm wrong, it doesn't matter what they can morally, ethically or (technically) legally do. In the USA, we are protected against unwarranted searches thanks to the constitution, and legally speaking, the government is not allowed to issue a general search or wire tap warrant without having a specific 'target' (be it a piece of information, person, time frame or what have you) and that's that.

it is scary how the multi-national corporations have taken over most governments.
they now want to make sure they keep their control by spying.
in the US the constitution has been completed destroyed and violated.
the people at the top of the government lie to congress, which is a serious crime, but do not get prosecuted.
but all of the things you type online, sites you visit, the things you say on your phone, the things you keep on your computer will be kept in Utah forever. you step out of line, they can use it against you. imagine in 10 or 20 years when you do something the people in power don't like, they can look through your history and use it against you. the founders of the US fought for less, but now Americans are too stupid and fat to do anything other than watch reality tv and eat junk food. so sad.

name, citizenship(s), tax bracket, a mailing address, and death certificate.

edit- also whether I am currently in prison. they should know who they have in prison (also the police record)
edit2- and if I am or had been in the military, that should probably be in their records, but only to be accessed by the agencies needed to get whatever benefits the soldier was promised when signing
edit3- and driver's license
