You can follow games by pressing the "Follow" button on game's Store page. After you follow a game, the updates for it start showing on your activity feed, and I think you'll start getting events notifications for it too. Followed games also go into their own list, separate from wishlisted games.

As far as I know just wishlisting works then. I get news from my wishlisted games, through Store > News
