HexLands

Hi guys!

Here I am again, ready to show you some progress! :)
I've been wanting to make a city builder for a long time, so here it is! This means that I had to slow down the progress on my ARPG, but it seems like it's worth it! :)

HexLands is a turn-based, roguelike city builder, set on peaceful, procedural medieval islands, ready to be settled!
Colonise as many islands as possible, as they are getting less and less habitable!
Manage your resources, complete quests, use special tools and synergize perks!
How far will your empire reach?

Want to know more? Want to see the trailer, screenshots, GIFs and know how exactly the game is played?
Check out its Steam page ! :) (and wishlist it of course ;) )

If you'd like to get updates, see behind the scenes, here's my YouTube channel, enjoy! :D

Feel free to watch the first video I made about HexLands or the latest one or just browse through the playlist.

Also I would love to see more people on our Discord community because more people means more feedback!
Thus every day we could shape HexLands into a better and better game! :D

Let me know what do you think! :)

Cheers,
Tudvari

Hey Cassol, glad to know that you know my other game as well! :D
And more importantly that you feel that the game is up your alley. In case you would like to contribute in the future, then stay tuned, so you won't miss the testing! :D

I'm sick of everything being a roguelike/lite these days, it's just lazy, and not a huge fan of excessive resource management either, but
I've yet to tire of islanders clones, especially hex-based ones, so this might be good enough to try too.

Right? I feel the name "roguelike" or "roguelite" is just used to draw that crowd in.

Hi Dohi,
I'm sorry to hear that. I was very unsure about whether I should call it a roguelike... because I still associate roguelikes with dungeon crawlers. :D And I can't call it a roguelite because each new run is a completely fresh start.
But seeing that my game fulfills 8 of 9 of the Berlin interpretation and looking at the market and the general public's current interpretation... I had to conclude that it would have been a bad marketing decision not using the roguelike label/tag. :| I'm sorry, but I must make a living and people really know what kind of game should they expect when they hear "roguelike city builder". Hope you understand.
Anyway, glad to hear that you are still interested in my game and I hope that I can deliver your expectations :)

And I can't call it a roguelite because each new run is a completely fresh start.

that doesn't stop some devs from calling their game both for extra visibility, making the tag system even more useless. at least you're not doing that, and in this case I don't have a problem with misinformation, but the fact that it's a roguelike, like 90% of games these days (claim to be).

but as I said, I enjoy these exactly because they're quick, no patience for civilization or the like anymore, and I'd rather try a slightly different one every now and then instead of going back to what I already played. and since they don't differ all that much, my expectations aren't that high either. decent controls, good funcionality and quality of life, the very basics, which are still out of reach in most cases. based on what I've read about your previous game (which I skipped for real-time reasons, as you might remember), I don't think they'll be a problem here.

Yep, I saw those mistagged games as well. :|
Glad to hear that, yeah, I just remembered that we exchanged a few mails regarding the "real timeness" of Regrowth and the puzzle curator you manage. :)
I'll try my best with this game, I guess if you'll have time you could curate this one as well as you did Islanders and Dorf Romantik. :D
Cheers!

that's the plan. dorfromantik was actually guest-mini-reviewed by a group member, it's way too pricey for me for what it is and will have to wait, but I've played all the others I could find that aren't early access (and they cost about as much as dorf alone).

and that looked very close to islanders and other games, except dorf got lucky (or something else happened) and became the poster child for the genre, so it outsells all the others even though you can buy 4-5 of those for dorf's price.

Hi AvidWinter! :)
Sorry, if they seem very very similar personally I haven't played Dorfromantik a lot, so maybe by accident it indeed is too similar. :\
Could you elaborate a bit so I could change as much as I can? Thanks in advance! :)
Based on my research I think it's pretty different from it, we could say its closer to Islanders. Well, it's certainly inspired by Dorfromantik as it's stated on the Steam page, but I think the similarities stop after the hex grid, quests and having a random "building" every turn.

But even these similarities have a twist on them. HexLands have procedural levels, while in Dorfromantik you build the level. Quests here quickly expire, have various rewards... so you must choose wisely which one you want to "chase". Every turn you have to choose from 3 random buildings instead of being forced to one, and they all depend on your available tiles and resources. And there are additional features which are non-existant in Dorfromantik to my knowledge, like a resource system, a perk system, a collectible tool system, etc.

Anyway, thanks in advance for all the feedback, cheers! :)

To be fair, it was from the screenshots as I did not try the game. It is not my style.

Not really, but I plan to release it in Autumn. I guess it's done when it's done. And it's done if the close community (=testers) says so. :D

Hey guys,
Here's the newest devlog!
Now that I updated the Steam page's art, I could finally start promoting it more. :)
What do you think of the new art? Is it fitting? Is it misleading? Was the previous one better? Let me know! :)
Cheers!

can unreleased games be added? technically you can give away keys for them but I think it takes a few days (or hours) after release for them to show up here.

Yep, with my previous game I also had to wait a month I think, then finally it was added. I did a few giveawasy before it was released and then also at the exact moment it got released. :) I just don't know how could I speed up the process.

Added to wishlist, as the game looks very promising (I really enjoy city builders mixed with roguelike mechanics)
Also subscribed to your youtube channel. Btw the concept of vampire survivors-like game with rails also seems interesting. Hope you'll continue developing that game, as it seems like something that could possibly become popular!

Thanks for the trust! :)
Well, the sad truth is that I would gladly work on that as well, I just don't have time. :\ While having a dayjob, I'm progressing so slow even with just this game. Next time I'll definitely start working on something smaller. But by the time I'm finished with this, vampire survivor like games could be out of season. :D So who knows! :)
Have a nice day!
