http://www.microcenter.com/product/384780/EQ276W_27_IPS_LED_Monitor I'd buy that right now if only Europe had these discounts haha 80 dollars worth a gamble. (forgot how to do clickies)

lol 80$ OMFG we can only dream about these discounts. But this one is not 120Hz, is 60Hz, and it's also 27" not 24", maybe BioWeapons was mistaken.

But still 80$ O.O, 27" and IPS, here in Europe for this money you can't get even a Full HD shitty Acer monitor.

"Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24" LED IPS" for 16:9 1920x1080 and "Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" LED IPS" for 16:10 1920x1200 (I'm using this one right now), I recommend you getting with an IPS panel one because of color depth, Dell makes one of the best color depth IPS panels, USB ports and you can also move your monitor in all directions including vertically, up/down, different angles, I love reading having it vertically, and moving it up/down is great when you try to accommodate.

In my opinion is better having an IPS with great colors but 60Hz instead of 120Hz with cheap TN panel, with that much bad console ports and bad optimized games getting at least 100 fps is not always possible, but is up to each one. Also I love 16:10 more than 16:9, these extra up and down pixels are truly useful :P

Except the new ASUS ones are better (faster) than the Dells :P (even at the same response rating)

yeah but fps is not the only reason to get 120hz that all depends on what you care more about,do you care more about looking good or playing good??

i chose my 120hz panel not only for the higher frames as with battlefield 4 i can hit almost 80fps with my 7950 if you get a good gaming monitor you will also get 2ms or lower response times and well screen tearing is terrible for some not to mention the input lag with having vsync on

you can look good or play good but at this point and time it will be hard to do both

IPS is nice but it is a gimmick like 3d something just to sell stuff at the lower end as if you can not get something like the Asus Pro Art or something like it then you are just wasting your money imo as they use cheaper tech in the lower end IPS and there is different types of IPS tech but yet so many people say get IPS

due your home work as each IPS tech has it put falls and if you want IPS pick the one that you can live with

start here to learn about IPS and what different IPS tech can and can not due
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPS_panel

if you are looking into gaming for the your main reason then i would suggest something like the BenQ XL series or the ASUS make some good gaming monitors

yeah it will not look good but if you play stuff like TF2 and COD you will at least be on a level playing field with those with gaming monitor if not they could be a step ahead of you because of input lag

example usually IPS in the lower price range of input lag at 5ms gaming monitors is 2ms so you already have a 4ms faster response time on just the input side

now think about 60hz vs 120hz

if you have Vsync on to match frame rate that is going to add to your input lag or you can turn it off and deal with screen tearing

where if you have a 120hz monitor you will not have input lag as you will not need to use Vsync to avoid screen tearing

like i said it will depend on what you want out of your monitor and well how you game you can go with IPS and look good if none of what i mentioned above matters as it will look good with the likes of Skyrim and such or if you have a weak system

anyhow i posted this to help you if you needed it and to also inform others that may read this and thinking of a monitor purchase i hope i have helped :)

you have no clue what you are talking about and half of it is wrong.
IPS is no gimmick, it's been around far too long to call it that. And neither 3D (which can only exist on 120Hz+ panels) nor IPS exist at the lower end so they hardly boost the sales of low-end monitors.

Input lag and response time are not synonymous, some (mainly the ASUS ones) have very low input lag despite being IPS whereas other faster rated 60Hz TN panels end up with much worse input lag than their response rating would suggest (especially Samsung's ones).

And most gamers still have 60Hz panels, only a few can afford 120/144Hz panels, so you'll hardly be outgamed by every other player if you choose not to get a 120/140Hz monitor. Some even game on TVs for pete's sake, which are hardly known for their responsiveness.

First of all ALL monitors have at best a real contrast ratio of 2000:1 (usually 1000:1 though), all the crazy numbers above that are auto-contrast software trickery which is always too slow and just generally sucks. So don't think an old 1600 contrast monitor is bad because 20 000 000 reported by other monitors is an inflated lie (then again that 1600 number is probably equally inflated on the old monitor and it's actually 600 or 700:1 which used to be the norm)

That said there IS a lot to be gained by going IPS so I'd recommend getting the ASUS MX239H or MX279H (though as the 279H has the same resolution some say it's not sharp enough at 27") both of which are some of the fastest IPS monitors around (slower than a 120/144Hz panel yes, but as fast or even faster than the usual 60Hz panels). Or if you prefer 16:10 and/or need more adjustment options then the ASUS PB248Q (which is NOT the same as older PA248). Or you could always play the korean lottery with a Yamakazi monitor (a lottery because some panels are superb, others have defects).

I recently got a PB248Q and couldn't be happier with my choice, at least VS the current monitors available (No IPS monitor with nVidia GSync yet unfortunately, but then again there's barely any anyways).

Of course if you decide not to go IPS then don't bother looking below a 120Hz panel.
