Of the two giveaways I've created, I sent one by email (through the Steam Gifts and Passes page) and another (HIB #2 code) through the Steam IM client. One way to verify that you're actually gifting the item to the right person is to go to the "Manage your giveaways" page, click on the name of the winner, and then click on the "Steam Profile" link. Friend them, and then send the gift over. That way, you can be 100% certain that you're gifting the item to the correct person.

If people were smart enough, they wouldn't add people and just trade it to them w/out checking the profile pages... It's sad that people don't do this, as well as sad that these scammers exist :(

So I've sent 2 games out so far, and with each game I've had folks add me to their list "fronting" like they were the person who won the game. Just wanted to post here to make sure everyone is careful with sending their gifts as there are apparently people already scamming their way through to success. I would advise anyone in this position to only send the gift via the e-mail provided to you on the Send Gift page.
Hope this helps!
