Good evening~ (Or morning ^^)

I have a few questions about the Humble Montly system and I can't find the answers on the official website.

As far as I understood, after I subscribe to the current June bundle, I will immediately get Stellaris. However, when will I see the list of other games in the set? The very moment I purchase it or I’ll have to wait until the time of the June set ends?

Will the games be revealed before the end of the bundle? Is there any place I can check games in the bundle before it ends?

I have never subscribed to Humble Monthly before and currently it seems to me like a game of chance. You either get something good or even something that you want or you just have to be satisfied with what strange games you received (and give them away on steamgifts ^^”).

Yeah, it is a game of chance. You get Stellaris and some other stuff. If you wait until the games are revealed then you can't buy that bundle. Whenever I got it I ended up disappointed. Whenever I didn't I wished I'd got it.

Ah, it's a shame then :< I'm quite interested in Stellaris, but I don`t want to get a bunch of games with it that I would never even think of playing. The subscription is not so cheap for me, unfortunately =_=

I'm also interested in Stellaris - but after getting caught out in the past I haven't made a decision yet!

Stellaris is worth it all on its own. Imho you can't do anything wrong this month.

It does look like my kind of thing - and also I have a lot of travelling coming up and it appears it would work on my laptop...

Be careful with that, Paradox grand strategy really taxes your CPU. I was able to run CK II on my laptop, but it took some CPU tweaks and map limiting mods.

I'd make sure you meet the recommended specs.

Stellaris' CPU requirements look pretty humble to me. Many games recommend an i7 "just because" (or because Intel slipped a tip) but this one requires a Core 2 Quad and recommends a modest i3. I wouldn't worry.

My main issue is not specs but that my laptop is a Mac (I got it for free before anybody starts, I'm not an Apple fan). I've gotten good performance/support from Paradox in the past.

People knock Apple too often. While I don't currently own one, I have in the past and use Apple stuff frequently for work. Yes, it's expensive and geared toward a certain type of consumer (namely, NOT techies and gamers). But I will say, that shit lasts. I have always been surprised at the mileage you can get out of an Apple system. My peers consistently get ~10 years out of macbooks without ever even cleaning them.

I do occasional work as a sound engineer for an agency that supplies to concerts, festivals, etc - which is where my Macs came from. Either they are what I am supposed to be using or decommissioned stuff that I got free or cheap. Up to about 2011 I thought they were overpriced but really great computers - maybe the equivalent of a Porsche car. I have a low opinion of their current range that seems pretty dumbed down.

Hmmm, that could be the solution.

if you have PayPal, GroupBuys has people who will generally take what you don't want. you just have to price it no more than what you paid. you can price games however you want as long as it totals what it cost. it can help keep the cost down if you only end up wanting only 1 or 2 games when they're revealed.

or just sell it to one person if you want less of a hassle. whatever works.

Thank you for the advice! That is another good way to deal with my problem ^^

Keep in mind that even in Group Buys, the "rest" of the Monthy games usually go at a lower price than they should.

I would say just buy Stellaris from a trader, but even the gift link price is 12-15 dollars right now (yes, more than the entire bundle).

But that's even more expensive and only for one game :(

The only point for GB was probably to spend only $3 to $4 if you only wanted Stellaris, and just split off the rest within for $8 to $9 if you wanted to save money. Or adjust it a bit if you wanted other games. Should is kind of subjective since it's really just based on the rule of what you paid. If you really wanted to get more, someone could use ST or other trading/selling forums, though.

It seems really weird to tell someone to go pay more for a game from someone else that's currently in the HB Monthly from someone else when they can just pay $12 (or 10% less if it's their first time). I can't help but think that to be weird anyway.

Humble Bundle is completely worth it.
You may not always like the games, but someone else will.
It makes for great giveaways.

Worst Case Scenario: You buy it and it has nothing you want in it. (Alternative: You don't buy it and it has lots you want)
Middle Case Scenario: You buy it, it has some stuff you want, some you don't. So you make Giveaways.
Best Case Scenario: You buy it and it has lots you want in it.

Pretty much no matter what the outcome is, you'll be giving away great games, getting decent CV in the process, and making other people really happy.

Looking from this point, I can't but agree with you. However, I have some really tight funds every month while I'm the only working person in my family. I'm always happy to bring joy to others, but in this very case I'd rather spend my money on something that I need for sure. This is the reason why I have some doubts (though now people explained to me how my problems can be solved in different ways, so I have far less things to worry about).

Thank you very much for expalining everything in such a simple yet appealing way ^^

To sum it up:

  • When you buy a monthly bundle, you will immediately get access to the early unlock game (both in Steam key and DRM-free format, if the latter is applicable).
  • At that point of purchase, you do not know what other games will be in the rest of the bundle.
  • At the first Friday of each month, the bundle is revealed. You will get access to all other games. Shortly after the reveal, you cannot buy the bundle any more: you have to take the risk of buying it before the reveal.
  • After the reveal, the new bundle is posted with the new early unlock and the cycle begins anew.
  • By default, if you buy a monthly, you subscribe to it. You can pause it (for a month) or unsubscribe at any time. The first-time 10% discount will not apply for that user. (Although we heard reports that if you are inactive for a long enough time, you can use a 10% coupon again.)

One perk I like is the additional 10% off everything on the Humble Store also as long as you subscribe. I use it every once in a while.

My problem with Humble Store is that it has higher prices for all games than Steam while I`m from Russia. So, for example, Bayonetta on Humble Store at full price would cost me 1160 rubles and in Steam it is just 699 (!). So the 10% discount is more like a joke in my case :)

Ahh. That's unfortunate. So not a good perk there. ;-(

I actually buy most of my games from Humble where I'm at, but others also say the prices aren't good in their country.

I often buy 1$ sets on HB. Both the ones with games and the ones with books (recently they had a good offer of fantasy books that even contained an audio-book). These offers are really amazing and incredibly cheap! I just wish I could use discounts on Humble Store and Indiegala store in the same profitable way ;<

As a rule of thumb, if you like the revealed game, and if the price of the whole bundle feels right for that game alone (usually it is a very competitive price, i.e. Stellaris for $12 is historical low), go for it, at this point everything else you get is free, and if you don't like it you can give it away on SG or trade it.

You may not believe me, but for me the full price for Stellaris in Steam is lower than this 12$ offfer xD 699 rubles compared to 720 (yeah, the difference is almost non-existent, but this just means that I get no discount on the game). This is the only reason why I have not bought the Humble Monthly bundle yet.

But yes, of course, I will get all other games for free while 12$ will fully cover the price of Stellaris. So it's a good variant :)

As a side-note, Stellaris is awesome. I've never really liked strategy games, much less 4X strategy, but after the stumbling baby-steps of me learning the basic mechanics I fell in love with it. I usually suck at strategy games due to obsessing over small details and not obsessively expanding before everyone else can. Stellaris is far better balanced in this regard, and this is gonna be my second weekend dedicated to playing my ongoing first 'serious' campaign >:3

Stellaris is still a really fresh release, so I was confused at how the hell they got this for even the monthly bundle, but it seems like they might make their money back through the expansion DLC content which isn't cheap. The base game however is solid, and in my opinion totally worth the monthly bundle price just for Stellaris alone. At least for me, the other games will just be bonus <3
