Said to be a collector's item due to its oddity, so what value does it have?

almost nothing at all, maybe a few cents. Keep in mind millions of ppl were in cards beta, each of them received this gift, or accumulated few of them (especially as having many accounts back then was very popular due to TF2 text-farming), so there are not even thousands but more likelly millions of these still laying around.

Hum...what is "Steam Trading Card Beta Access?"

An invite to the Steam trading card feature when it was still in beta in the form of a Steam gift. I think I have a couple and I find the idea of it actually being worth anything laughable. If it somehow is then I guess it means that there is a collector for every ridiculous thing out there, including the scat of different animals.

well oddly enough, I'm a big collector of things (I have 5K games on Steam) and always found Steam trading card ridiculous, not that it's a bad idea, but the cards are mostly ugly/lazy and the system around it ridiculous.

But now that it's been installed and has become and incentive to collect games since you get value out of farming card, I would be extremely not happy if they removed it, in fact become anti-steam.

Trading cards are cool, when they are nicely designed, and you get to keep track or have incentive to collect them beside the artificial value, but you get just basic custom cards that disappear when you craft badge which isn't worth it, or sell them, and there is no index or your collection.

Personally I wouldn't care much if there were no more trading cards. Acquiring virtual things merely for the sake of collecting doesn't really mean anything to me, and as far as selling the cards goes, for me the amount of money is not really significant compared to the amount of effort involved. Actually, if there is something that would deter me from shopping on Steam to some degree it's the new policy just instituted where you can no longer buy Steam gifts to save in your inventory. This now makes me more likely to shop elsewhere for keys instead.
