When I was starting college I remember a proffesor telling me "you're gonna be a great architect" once at the end of a class... I dropped out of college the next year and switched career to engineering, mostly out of frustration with architecture.
There's also something my best friend told me along the lines of "you're a giant waiting to wake up" when I was struggling with depression. I really miss him, he was a great man.

what? you want me to wait 20 minutes? i want another round NOW!
i've heard quite a few compliments in my time. some seriously good, some semi-sarcastic and some...eh hard to tell. xD
anything from looking younger than i actually am (yes, me too) over my knowledge of hardware and tech in general ("PC master") to me being in great shape (when i am in shape that is).
that's all fine and nice to hear but really nothing to write home about.
however one occasion comes to mind and it all started with something like "i hate to break it to you but you are mad, aren't you?". that was actually the beginning of arguably the best 3 years of my life yet
and yes, that is related to the first sentence :P

I get the age compliment reasonably often. Not only from my wife. :) (Who also looks young for her age.) Which doesn't help me feel young or good about how I look, but is still nice.
It's a nice topic. Made me think of some compliments as I'm writing it, and it does make me feel better. So I won't stick just to one. :)
I get compliments reasonably often (about once a year) that I dance well. Got a compliment that I'm a good person, that was nice to hear.
I liked it, years ago, when my mother read the (only) story I got published and said "you write like a writer". She's not all that good at complimenting, so that was a pretty big compliment for me. I liked it when I sang at my wedding and my father told me later "I didn't know you could sing." That was a nice compliment, though I frankly don't like hearing myself sing. (But then, I also don't like seeing myself dance; too much self criticism.)
I get job-related compliments reasonably often, if you count head hunters approaching me through LinkedIn.
But I probably appreciate most when my wife tells me she loves me. And I love it when my son hugs me, which I see as a compliment. I imagine it'd pass in a year or two when he reaches his teens (though my daughter still hugs me, so there's hope), so might as well cherish it now.
Edit: Ah, and forgot the whitelists on SG. These are compliments. Better to ignore the blacklists. :)
Good luck with the job thing.

One day an amazing guy told me that he found me beautiful and attractive. Over the next couple of years, he repeated it several times. Well, we've been together for five years. 😄
But I'd rather say the silence and care is the best compliment for me. By silence I mean when someone who is very important to you listens to me.

Not familiar with the implied concept of "getting compliments".

Well today someone guessed me 10 years younger (i know i look a bit younger my age, but 10..). :p
Started that whole job experience thing, work isn't really set, you do whatever comes along, still worried a bit as it's just unclear how long i will have to do this before landing a real job while keeping wellfare and where i will go. Or as a friend tells me regularly stop seeing the bears on the road.
I must go through this i know.
