Won't debate what a solo is and if this is 'the best', but I love Rodrigo y Gabriela - 'Tamacun'

hmm, wouldn't even dare to name one solo, but anything Buckethead releases is pure guitar gold. that guy has an amazing range, from slow and mellow acoustic guitar to hard 'n heavy metal shredding.
Check this out: Soothsayer and Whitewash
or any of his 250 pikes: http://music.bucketheadpikes.com/
this guy was born to play guitar and nobody gets even close.

I think all mentions are amazing but I'm amazed that still no one mentioned Page's solo on Stairway to Heaven

Or any number of Led Zeppelin live solos. Or the Grateful Dead.
Although I'd probably chose Jimi Hendrix and one of his versions of the Star Spangled Banner for my top choice.
The way he played the guitar behind his back, with his teeth, used it to make new sounds aligning it with his amp was all very creative. And this isn't even talking of playing with his guitar on fire!

You guys are on the right track with Pink Floyd, but the best solo of all time is the intro to Wish You Were Here.

So, which do you think is the most awesome/kickass/incredible/orgasmic/intense/shredding/technical/melodic/brutal solo ever?
In my opinion, probably the best solo ever done (from a melodic perspective) is "Comfortably Numb" solo, by David Gilmour, from Pink Floyd. It's just too orgasmic, is the climax of the song, it always makes me wanna cry by some weird reason.
