A recommendation from them is the opposite of a recommendation for me.
A shame because I like SCUMM games and this one seems nice, but too Tim Schafer for me these days.
He probably slept with some of the developers or something - you know how it is in those circles.

you know that steam fetches the reviews from opencritic.com and not the publisher can decide what review it shows...
That's why you even see very bad reviews from time to time

I didn't buy 'Her Story' due to the same reasons, I don't know what happened but those reviews haven't appeared again since.
Devs either have control over which reviews they showcase or should have because it affects purchases like my potential has to have.
I love both Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick but your man Tim has spoiled the well for all until they speak out about how he has done so.
For the record, I had Loom before it was advertised in Escape from Monkey Island. And many other adventure games well before that style of platform was available.

Nah It's not "my man Tim" or anything but he was not involved in this game. Not with Ideas or money or marketing...
And well: If they would have control you maybe might not see any bad reviews anymore. But I'm not sure how steam decide what review they will show. But after a look at the openreview page I guess they most of the time don't even have a big pool to choose from.
Most of the time I don't check these reviews.
edit I don't understand your other answer tbh. sorry

Tim's a cunt. He shat in the water and nobody is wanting to drink from it now.
If you haven't heard of GaamerGate then perhaps look it up and see why old timers like me aren't prepared to cough up for an industry of corrupt reviewers or those who stand by them.
I'm cool with Tim not being involved, but Kotaku is and that is a no-no for me.
I hope you understand.

I knew this GG thing... and I knew from his Kickstarter failures... no problem with not liking him.
As for Kotaku (I don't know this page, google said it's something like ign): are you sure that the publishers of this game hat any contact with kotaku? and are you sure, that a publisher can decide what reviews will got showed on steam? at least for the second one I'm sure they can't. And for the first: I know that PCGamer release reviews for games without asking publishers first from time to time.
btw. haven't played this game and also didn't bought it. will wait till I see it in a bundle because I read that the ending is a bit messy. Also there are still enough p&cs in my backlog

I know that publishers can NOT have a particular review if they deem so fit.
How that works is unbeknownst to me.
All I know is that I see a review from a reviewer I do not like and I make a decision, then and there, not to buy it.
It's up to the publishers and developers to decide whether or not they want to have some entity support their works when they know they will lose some sales from it.
'Her Story' used to have all the culprits supporting it. Now they don't.
Point being, for me at least, is that they did - at one time - support it and so no sale from me. Ever. Not even free.
The sooner games drop the useless inbred media from their promotional material, or the sooner that those who are against GamerGate start buying games they support, the easier it will be for all to decide on who to buy from and who to support.
As is; I just see a bunch of crybullies not buy games but complain about those who do and make demands.
Who wins in that situation?

While I PERFECTLY understand your position about Kotaku, I agree that I don't think the developer has any control over which reviews appear, since sometimes there is a bad one

This Game is by Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, the creators of Maniac Mansion. Not by Tim Schafer. And he was not involved. t's not even on DoubleFine...
