Walkthroughs, guides, whatever you want to call them.

I used them in the past, whenever I got stuck, and 2 minutes of attempting the problem didn't fix it. I'm trying to stay away from them now, because:

a) I feel like they ruin the game

b) No matter how long it takes, if I keep trying different solutions, I'll get it eventually

How about you?

I'll only use them when I get to the point to where shooting my head feels like a good idea.

Pretty much this, and there are not a lot of games which can do that so it's all good.

This, although after i use it, i feel bad about myself for cheating. That's why i almost never use them. That feeling when you finally make it out, or you find what you were looking for afthr minutes / hours of searching is priceless.

Unless the thing you were trying to find was right in front of your eyes, then, you will wanna shoot yourself even more :)

I feel like a game shouldn't make you have to look for anything for hours

It does not happen all that often. But sometimes is just me, being silly, and not seeing what's in front of my eyes.

But that rarely happens.

Happened to me in few games, especially in DS1, cause I was playing with controller for almost first time and was new to that kind of games xD
Edit: I can't believe I forgot Portal 2, makes me kill myself, then revive and kill myself again.

Well you're free to ruin your game if you want to, after all you paid for it.

A great example of that is Antichamber. I got it for my birthday, ended up using a walkthrough multiple times, and several times at the very end of the game. Regret using it so much, ruined the game, imho.

I try to avoid them as best as I can, but depends on how much I'm enjoying the game too

Only on puzzles, which are boring as fuck.

I know, I'm a simple peasant who doesn't want to bother using my pretty little head.

I have too many games. If I am playing one and can't get past a certain part, you can be pretty sure "putting it off for later" to me would mean "putting it off forever". So I'll check a guide for the section I have been stuck at so I can continue.

I wouldn't put a game away just because I wouldn't be able to figure something out. And most of the times it's not because it's hard but because it's ridiculous.

b) is a waste of time IMO. I only use them in adventure games when I'm really stuck. It mostly happens on "logical" puzzles which are no logical at all. Or in Sherlock Holmes games lol. Some "puzzles" there are ridiculous! And tidieous.

^ Adventure games do like to challenge the rational and go for something reasonable farfetched. Sometimes I just try to combine every item or use every item in any way possible. I do like to sleep on it and see if I figured out the solution a day or more later, without using a walkthrough.

I have developed a better resistance against using walkthroughs, though I still sneak a peek (or peeks :3) if I am just about to give up.

  • I play the game.
  • I complete it.
  • I use a walkthrough in my second playthrough to get all the achievements/sidequests.

I usually use it to find hidden items or collectibles...
Except if it's a wide open world games.

Getting stuck in a game is the biggest moodkiller to me. Just like BrandeX, I as-well would just throw it away forever and never even look at it.
I enjoy adventure, platform and logical games but sometimes they just get too hard and obviously tossing away a game forever is a giant waste of hard-earned dosh.

So if that happens, I just go ahead and look up a walktrough. Alternatively watch some quality let's players for doubled entertainment.

I don't read them until I've played through the game, and want to see how others completed it. Or when I think I might have glitched something and need to check whether or not I can get around it. I've lost count of the number of times I've gotten myself stuck just by goofing around with various paths through my game. In one place in Tomb Raider 2 I found out that swan diving just right into certain objects keeps you from dying from any fall, no matter the height. So I of course abused the shit out of it! Got my ass so lost. lol

Other than that, I avoid them. They tend to ruin the experience for me.

I've been playing Duke Nukem recently for the first time. It's pretty much impossible to progress sometimes without some guidance. It's got some really cryptic shit.

Just sometimes when I get stuck and after a bit really can't figure what to do. Also when I can, I prefer ones who give clues about what to do before giving it to you, used a lot of these in The Secret World (Damn some of this game investigative quests are HARD).

Back in the 90s when there was no interwebz I could get stuck in a game for months. I Often had to buy a gaming magazine that had a walkthrough of that game (I remember Space Quest IV, Zak mcKracken and Conquest of Camelot) because not many of my friends played adventure games.
It's too easy to find the answer to a problem nowadays. My gaming time is limited so whenever I get stuck for about half an hour I often search for the answer on the internet. Lame I know...

I'm stubborn, and only refer to walkthroughs if I've been stuck on a section for a few days. I prefer "clues" to complete how-tos though.

I use them only when i'm stuck at a certain point or when the game is too confusing. Once i used a walkthrough in skyrim because that blasted dog kept appearing and disappearing most of the times. Turns out that was a glitch.

Some games seem to require them. Lookin' at you, FEZ. Another one that requires a guide is Skyrim — a guide to the dev console for when it screws up. Love the game, hate the bugs.

I have a line. On one side, games that give you enough information to solve the problem. I avoid guides in this case. Other side, games that don't (hi FEZ). In that case you gotta Google. In fact I have a decoder app for FEZ on my phone...

I only use guides if I'm completely stuck on what to do. Braid was a perfect example of this.

Strangely enough, I didn't need a walkthrough on some of the harder puzzle pieces, because my 12-year-old brother, who is usually pretty terrible with puzzles, managed to get (or help me get) a couple of the harder pieces in the game. Naturally, I felt kinda dumb (college has made me dumber, I think :/), but still surprised at what he was capable of.

I just use walkthroughs videos to games that i dont have... just with purpose to get an idea if the game is worth to buy it or not, after 10 minutes i close the video and thats it xD
Another situation i like to watch walkthroughs is when the player its very skiled and its speedrunning.
PS: i always beat the games in my own without walkthroughs help.

If I get to a point in a game that I'm stuck then I would rather use one than quit playing it.
