No, im not being attacked by The Thing. I am writing a psychological essay/prestentation and I need a pop culture monster-thingy whos goal is assimilation/complete physical merging with the host, for demonstrative reasons. All I can think of is John Carpender's The Thing, which is a bit too graphic for my purposes. And the Borg don't quite fit the requirements either. I'm just too stinking tired to come up with anything else..

Anyone? :P

EDIT: Many thanks steamgifts! I've settled for the alien xenomorph, which purpose is twofold, assimilation through destruction. Which is perfect, because it's also extremely well known monster!

Just in case you were interested, I was looking for a pic to go with the text of a certain personality trait, when it comes to relationships, who's need to "merge" with another person usually result in driving people away.

I'll be using this pic

Again thanks for the help!

The Thing was inspired by a 30s sci-fi story called Who Goes There?, written by John W. Campbell, Jr.
This story served as inspiration to a movie before The Thing too: The Thing from Another World. The 80s The Thing is a remake from this 50s one.

The Daleks from DW came to mind but they want to 'exterminate' not assimilate. Let me keep thinking...

Look at that..

The Cybermen from DW want to assimilate. I'm not a huge fan but I knew there was some DW alien race that wanted assimilation.

I can't recall the title of the movie, the point is there were these aliens looking like manta rays, sticking to humans thus controlling them. I'll try to look up the title, but if someone knows what is it, don't hold back :)

There are weird slug-like aliens that inhabit the human host and control it directly in both the old Animorph children's book series as well as the more recent Stephenie Meyer book The Host.

Well if you want The Thing theme but need something less graphic, I advise you to read the reverse-engineered story here:

Wow, that was a great read. But I wanted to use a picture for my prestentation, hence the need to an easily recognizable pop culture monster. Thanks anyway.

I'd say the best for your purposes would be THE VENOM from Spider Man comics. People know about it from the movies, comics, and anime. Not too graphic and fits the bill.

The Human/Alien hybrid from Alien 4. Maybe it doesn't quite fit your requirement but still might be worth a shot.
