Yeah whole generations (after WW2) grown up themselves, not having heared i love you from their parents, and thus they never passed it on to their children. It's for us to break that cycle and do say i love you to your kids.
I am sure they will remember you as a loving parent. :)

Even before of that...
My father was born just 5 days before Spanish Civil started (1936).
Later, he became an orphan and lacked both material and affection.

Even st the present, his main way to show love for someone is providing with foodor with actions (helping with something).

I feel odd about what you say about generations not hearing "I love you" from their fathers. I find it normal because that's my case too but at the same time I think I'm the exception and not the norm.

Yeah my father did show his affection in helping / actions though too, one time we been drinking alcohol and watching music till late, and one of the few times he said: "You know i don't say it (often) but you know i love you, right?". That was one of the few exceptions.

I think maybe there is (still) also a bit of that stereotype where men "aren't allowed" to express their feelings.

So your dad is like 86 out now? That's a really nice age.

When people less prone to open their heart says what your father said, that has a lot of value.

Yes, my father is 86 and in (relatively) good health for his age.
I wish I reach his age and conditions. It would be a great achievement for sure!
