Edit: If you're constantly tired or can't sleep properly you need to get it checked. Did you have an accident, maybe even ages ago?

As to why you fear your wife's reaction more: She's more important. Disappointing a boss can be overcome, through hard work or a change of job. Someone really close to you? Not so much. That negative feeling will never fully go away. ;)
