Will you buy Hitman 3 on Epic Game Store?
SO basically WAIT until steam version. EGS blows hard a$$
I know you blamed the Dev but I feel 99% of that is Epic BS they made them agree to as part of this deal.

Good, but what really worries me is that progression carryover can only be done once. If I do it now on EGS, I won't be able to do it later once it releases on Steam. I already finished the game but I don't feel like doing repeated plays if all of my progress will be lost if I decide to rebuy it on Steam. One-time-only sync is ridiculous

Was never going to buy it on Epic, I'll be waiting for the Steam release.

Progression carryover can only be done ONCE. Meaning if you carried your progress from Steam to the EGS version of Hitman 3, you can't carry that progress back to the Steam version in future
In no place it says that you won't be able to carry progress to Steam after you carry it to EGS. They may treat both EGS and Steam as the same platform: PC (after all, saves are generally compatible, so even if they don't actively support it, you can always just copy&paste the savegame files). Or maybe not, but it's not explicitly said.
It would be nice if they clarify if PC/Steam and PC/EGS count as 2 different platforms for this purpose or not, but probably part of the EGS contract forbids them to talk about anything related to a future Steam release.

I'm not interested in buying Hitman 3 any soon since I haven't beaten the other games yet, but it not having regional pricing is a turn off for me

These features sounds more like restrictions. Like when they let you bring your used soap to another prison cell.

Or should, if this is your first encounter with the game. The following text doesn't impact you in any way then.
So, I suppose the final chapter in the Hitman series is releasing soon (on Epic Game Store cause exclusivity is a great thing for all), and as was the case with the previous game, people were wondering if their progress and unlocks will transfer into Hitman 3.
Well, the good news is that it will happen. Now, how exactly it will happen is something to talk about. IOI Interactive revealed today the progress carryover process and you can read more about it here: https://www.ioi.dk/hitman-3-pre-launch-guide/
But to get the gist of it:
No pre-load for EGS on PC.
No regional pricing, making it the most expensive platform to purchase Hitman 3 in many countries
We have to rebuy the gold access pass of Hitman 2 on EGS, despite having it on Steam. (There are both passes, one for Hitman 2 standard and the other for Hitman 2 gold edition). Even with an 80% discount, it's literally buying what you own already.
Hitman 2016 version is only free if you already have it or purchase Hitman 3 within the first 10 days of the launch period/ preorder them. Meaning you have to purchase Hitman 2016 again as well if you miss a limited time window
No VR option for the PC version of Hitman
Progression carryover can only be done ONCE. Meaning if you carried your progress from Steam to the EGS version of Hitman 3, you can't carry that progress back to the Steam version in future
If you fail to carry over BEFORE starting Hitman 3 on EGS, you PERMANENTLY lose all the progress you make in Hitman 3 when you decide to carry over in the future. Meaning you have to start a fresh Hitman 3 playthrough.
Just marvelous. What's bizarre is that https://personal.hitman.io/ already shows your data about what DLC/version you own. They could easily check that, and grant access.
How do you split from Warner Bros, go independent and end up being worse than them? Will 2021 be the year where devs/publishers just collectively decide to be asshats to the consumers? Stay tuned
