Iam rather new to this site, so maybe this has been discussed before, if so.. i apologize.

Cant group giveaways be abused? Like you make a group, invite a few "friends".. do a group only giveaway.. a "friend" wins and you get cv and keep the game..
Is there any control over this?

They need to activate it on their account if they win.

Cant they just mark it as received?

They can. But if support catches them, they will get suspended. And, as far as I know, if support notices a lot of fake received in a small group, it's perma ban for all for attempt to cheat the system.

Well, i asked since iam not sure how effective suspensions are here. i saw alot of ppl complain about the support.

But yeah.. thats if they get reported

Indeed, or else the friend who "won" would be awarded a suspension for not actvating a gift.

Well , the winners of a giveaway must activate the game ...

So for example , you make a giveaway for Bad Rats ... , Person X wins the giveaway ... if Person X dont have bad rats in his library after the GA is over , then he may get suspended ... IF someone catches him.

The whole idea of making GA's in a group to farm CV ... is possible tho i guess ...

I have seen a couple giveaways with only 1 entry and such, thats why iam asking. But you can kinda cover up giveaways like this and that sucks

If a giveaway has less than 5 entrants, there is no CV awarded

Thats better then, less abused

You need min 5 entries for CV btw.

yeah as everyone else mentioned , you need atleast 5 entries in a giveaway .

Otherwise you can just whitelist a friend of yours and trade him a game ... then mark it as a giveaway :P

As for the ones with 1 entry , there are those groups where you need to do giveaways and keep a ratio Given / Won ... so sometimes its normal for people to not enter for a game they dont want , since it will require them to give away a game in return .

Something like that .

If somebody didn't receive the game, he only marks as not received, so the points of cv will not rise.

I said the group members would be "friends", like.. they would mark received and the giveaway owner would keep the game.

Many already abused it.

CV farming could happen if you get a small group of friends:
Person 1 adds a private giveaway and invites 3 friends
Each friend has a 1 in 3 chance of winning the giveaway
Giveaway ends, winner is chosen
Person 1 gifts the game to the winner
Winner marks as received
Winner then creates their own giveaway

Rinse and repeat. The cv would still be accepted as there are 3 or more participants.

However, the members of a group cannot mark a gift as received if they don't then activate it. Otherwise they will get suspended or eventually banned.

What about this..

Person B got skyrim but hasnt synced yet with steamgifts since he got it (you can still enter the skyrim giveaway)
Person A makes a giveaway of skyrim
Person B wins, marks as received, syncs account.

Wouldnt that be a way to cheat the system?

What if person C or D or E or F wins? Can only work if all 5 just bought Skyrim.

Does the "request new winner" leave any record?, like can you request right away, or is it locked

Well....support has to actually approve a new winner, so if you don't have a reason to reroll, they won't do it

So you do need support aproval to request a new winner, thats good then

Well if the winner asks you, the creator, to reroll, support will reroll for you. (I think.)

There are tons of games in which you can enter albeit you have basic game. So it's not that weird to have 5 people with skyrim on acount. Plus you can't see DLCs of other person if you aren't on their friendlist.

So someone can make 5 GAs for Legendary Edition. they will mark it as received. And it's exploit that noone will be able to proof.

True, I guess it's still limited though, since you'll have to do it for another game that all have the next time.

Well Skyrim alone would give 150 CV. And pretty much every game that come in pack with DLCs can be entered only for DLCs - Thief, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider, Saint's Row 3 & 4 are just few that I can recall without thinking much.

Yup, they can. You can have game on your account and mark it as received before syncing. (The game can't be won previously on SG, because winning more than one copy of game is reason to suspension as well)

If they do that , the winner will get suspended tho ( if caught) ... and eventually all of them will get banned mostlikely ( if someone notices that )

But if they can do that, i doubt ppl would check that deep :P They would see he has the game and leave it at that prob

Thought it was 3, 5 then.

Accounts are automatically synced, if there were 1 hour speed giveaways with only 5 people then it would get suspicious

Accounts are synced once per week, so GA could last for 3 - 4 days without problem.
