Well, there's a thing that people like myself who listen to mostly older sounds, stuff like Megadeth or Iron Maiden for example, don't consider metalcore and similar styles metal at all. I think they sound different enough, and metalcore + other similar styles sounds bad to my ears. Not sure how is the "official" classification, but I think it gives metal a bad name. I realize there are people who like it though, and that's just my opinion, so no problem. And yeah, some nu-metal is listenable. There's just something about metalcore and more "emo"-like music that I can't like.
That said, I still wish luck to your brother, and congrats for achieving what he has achieved.
