Dumb question, but you are using Windows Vista/7, right?

What kind of sound device are you using, some players are reporting that when they remove their 7.1 headset's or disable the sound device it works again.

So it might be some sort of sound problem.

From what I've read this could be an 8 channel sound issue for headsets and speakers.....Try changing from 8 to 4 channel sound or remove your headset (If you have one) and see what happens.
