Because it is still in "closed" beta.. Once they officially release the game, it'll be F2P.. (-:

You will get additional ingame-items if you buy the invite from the store.

The Items you get are around 25 Euro worth, compared to the Dota Store. Dunno about different prices for USD. (too lazy to check ;O)
