Which card should I get?
Should had gotten the R9 390. I guess =P
May be somewhat better in stock clock, uses more power, may be superior in DX12.
At-least it's not worse (beyond power consumption & unix-like OS drivers (well, drivers in general, but you already know how it perform even with those troubles)), would had given the possibility of getting a cheaper FreeSync monitor (if only they supported the same frame rate ranges as G-sync did too) and it would had supported AMD.
But yeah, most realistic disadvantage being higher power-draw and worse Linux drivers (for now, Vulcan may change that.)
Advantage possible somewhat quicker now, possibly better odds at performing even better in DX12, FreeSync cheaper than G-sync and help poor AMD when they actually competing products (among the graphics cards the 390-series may stand out as one of the worse competitors because of the power draw though. But what IF it turned out it had like say a 30+% lead in DX12 titles? =P)

My bad for thread necroing... better choice than those 2 would been a 290 / 290x for like 290€
Only would strongly suggest to go nvidia if you plan using linux.

I own the GTX 970... Got a copy of Far Cry 4 so you are taking £50 off of the price since I'm going to gather you would have bought Batman anyway! I've had no problems with the 970. So for way cheaper its worth it :P
Edit: Just read the post more... It was 2 months ago... Good choice with going with the 970 though :D

Currently 970's come with Arkham Knight bundled... but thats cheap to be had as there were a good influx of keys through nvidia's site. Around 15-18€
FC4 = 50GBP?
I think not...

Well I bought the 970 when Far Cry 4 was just released, so yes £50 xD

Last time i bought a game at full price the game was so utterly disastrous that i entirely stopped buying games when they are new and on their price peak. Well sort'of - i indeed preordered Witcher3 - for the very attractive price of ~30€ though. But that was a biiiiiig exception. :)

Okay I may have been slightly wrong, I think it was £40 on release(at least on PC). But yeah last time I bought a game full price was COD AW on xbone, WORST decision ever I actually traded it into game for £10 for steam wallet money recently So now I'm never going to buy a full price game, unless I know I will enjoy it and it will be worth the £40-50! What did you think of Witcher 3(I only watched a lets play) :)

Ahh so you got into the same trap as myselves :-{ Stupid habit of switching off brain and just let desires go ;-)
Well the game has a very dense feeling. Superb atmosphere and visuals. Really like the characters and dialoges so far. Characters feel believable. As far as the game concerned i haven't progressed alot. It's open world nature detracts me a bit off playing as you can play it as a walking simulator. I usually were discovering the world but progressing on the story or battling monsters :D As you seem to enjoy FC4 i'd wager that you'd enjoy the game too.

Unfortunately, I do... Or I did at least. Now I don't have the income to impulse buy like that so I'm very cautious when buying games and wait for sales :)
Yeah I thought that also while watching, I stopped watching the lets play as it seemed almost like the exploring and side quests took away from the story. I enjoyed the characters though :)
Its pretty much a copy and paste of Far Cry 3 (which I completed and loved on the xbox!) Far Cry is stunning on PC though, its breathtaking at ultra settings :D

I've seen it on Twitch... prolly with alot less fidelity than playing on own pc. It still looked gorgeous thats for sure. (they surely selected the himalayan backdrop more than it'd would fit the game - the game could be located in afghanistan (similiar to solid snakes' last venture) and feel more in place but then it would be a barren and trist place to be :)
The streamer was mostly busy with hunting deer (and getting himselves stomped by wildlive ^o^) that i can only conclude thats typical for open world games to loose context but enjoy the world itselves but the original storyline and events :)

Hello guys!
Soon I am buying a new PC and I don't know what graphic card I should get. I can't decide between GTX 970 and R9 390, as they both are in quite similar prices.
The other parts of the PC are gonna be i7-4790K and 16GB RAM. It will be used for gamedev - I'd like to start a project in UE4 - and of course for gaming. I won't be switching to anything bigger than 1080p now.
At first I was sure about getting GTX 970 as it
But on the other hand some people say there are some memory issues with this card when more than 3.5GB is used.
However, after release the R9 390 turned out to be better than I had expected.
but it
GTX 970 seems to be a little bit better choice due to better culture of work and better drivers (and Batman of course). But, because of bigger memory and dx12 support, R9 390 may be more efficient in future. GTX 970 can be nicely overclocked, but it would still have only 4GB of VRAM (or even 3.5).
So these are my thoughts that keep arguing with each other and preventing me from making a final decision. I would really appreciate if you helped me choose one and maybe share some opinions or experiences you had with those cards.
Thanks in advance! (All GAs ended.)
EDIT.: I finally made the decision and ordered a GTX 970. Thanks for all the help!
