Johann Sebastian Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier - Glenn Gould

Been listening to a lot of Bach recently and I'm just going to leave the top comment for this one here: "Been playing classical piano about 15 years and let me say, to be able to play each part with such independence that it no longer sounds like a piano at all, but 4 separate singers? Very few could achieve this to such a level. As we watch this performance It's easy to get caught up in the physical component, the independence of the fingers, the coordination necessary to choreograph such complex pieces. But it's the mental component, the concentration, which is truly beyond belief for me. To really do this, you have to have it so clearly in your head, all dynamics, all colors, all everything, that you could easily sing each of the 4-6 separate lines from the beginning of the piece to the very end, in your head, and in perfect time. That literally requires a superhuman level of concentration. I can't think of any skill in all of music that is more difficult to attain than this - nothing."
