Skyrim? That game is one of the most boring repetitive games I've ever played.. It had me occupied for 9 hours at which point I deleted it and never plan to waste my time again.

Maybe it's just not his type of RPG? Like me, Skyrim is a meh game to me, because I prefer RPG's like Diablo.

Path of Exile pwns the shit out of diablo 3 and its free :) and never will be pay 2 win.
And it will have CUt-Throat leagues implemented = Full loot system & Open PvP from Darkfall Online and Invasion system like in dark souls 1/2 = gg.

What is there to understand how to play?
Grind to level up and work your way through the skill tree? Install enough mods that the game doesn't look anywhere near how it was created? Skyrim is boring, same thing all the time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's why you install mods :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've had enough mods, it is just boring as hell. Besides, the reason mods exist is because the company failed to create a fun game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can have your opinion on Skyrim but a blanket statement like that about mods is simply wrong.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What statement about mods? That it is impossible to play without mods? When I first bought Skyrim a friend of mine told me "Don't launch the game before you install X, Y, Z mods because of bugs".
The way I see it, mods fix bugs that the devs couldn't care less about, they add content that the dev didn't bother, they add map options and tons of more stuff.. The mods are 3/4 of the game.

Edit: It is like a board game company would give you the board and tell you draw what ever you want on it. In my opinion, Skyrim is one of the most overrated games of 2012 and 2013.

Each to his own. Only mod I installed was the texture pack and I put 300 hours into it. Loved it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have hundreds of hours in Skyrim (not all in Steam) and I never installed a single mod. It is, by definition, not "impossible to play without mods" as you state. Your logic is flawed and as such, your argument is invalid.

Permalink

Same here. I don't even have any of the DLCs.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Mods don't exist because a company didn't make a fun game...they add more to the game. The devs can't possibly include everything you can find in mods.

Total conversions have developed into entire separate games. Some of the most popular games right now started as mods.

Sanctum 2 Collection is 24.99 but totally worth it, it isn't a full free roam/open world game but there is a vast amount of areas and secret spots to explore in all the maps, and it is also great fun

Dungeons of Dredmor.

Two great rogue-likes with plenty of replay ability.
They aren't open world like you asked, but I feel they need to be mentioned.

It's impossible to choose one. Here are a few I like:

Single player: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - a bit more linear than Skyrim but still open world.

MMOs: Everquest II, Landmark, Lord of the Rings Online, Rift.

I'm surprised they don't mention it on the Steam store page! That doesn't sit right with me. (I've been a founder for half a year now, I've purchased it from SOE.)

Wow you are right, I never noticed it doesn't mention that on the Steam page. When you purchased Landmark from SOE, did you get beta for EQ Next as well?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, just Landmark. And since the EQ part of the title was taken away, I'm somehow doubtful they will give Landmark founders a key.

After a quick search on their website, it seems like Landmark is quite a bit further in dev then EQNext so there is still hope!

Call of Duty Ghosts Hardened Edition Preorder Exclusive Freefall Edition Ultimate Collector's Edition, yes that's one game. The game's so open world, if the game didn't push you in the right direction you'd get lost. It's so cheap, that Activision would go bankrupt if it went below 20% off. It's so awesome and cinematic that Activision pulled off the same stunts as the last few games and everyone's still amazed. Quality game right here.

I'd suggest Project Zomboid (14.99). I have already sunk a ton of hours into it and the devs are awesome. State of Decay (19.99) has held my interest recently as well. I'm kinda on a zombie/survival kick.

SoD: Lifeline was a good recent addition.

I'm on my first play through right now. At times there seems like there is almost too much to do and check out. Can't wait to get to the DLCs. Kinda splitting my free time between both games atm.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

For State of Decay there is indeed a-lot to do at once sometimes and it can seem overwhelming, that said I did more or less nail a 100% completion on my first game.

Breakdown is the same place but minus story. Unlockable people are cool. Gets harder as you play, but, its still somewhat easy since you know the map.

Lifeline, really fun defending against sieges. Sucks when they prioritize normal zombies over the Ferals/Juggernaughts that bust in and get killed. REALLY Brutal in terms of time management, you get over-tasked with saving people/supply runs sometimes and SOME, WILL, DIE. The ramps that litter the highway suck because cars/trucks LOVE to flip, AVOID AT ALL COSTS... back up and drive around, trust me.

Good Luck.
