Oh Cool
Too bad I don't have pumpkin
For what I think, you should make a poll system, or a webpage where people can vote their favourites

Seems like a waste of pumpkin. Think of all the soup you could make with a full pumpkin or roasted with some pork or chicken.
Events should be more international; like "Hate on Poland Week", "Hug a Bosnian Day" or "Appreciate having less Deadly Critters than Australia Day".
The events we could have on these days could be limitless. Human piñatas, Tank Parades and Funnel-Web Drawing Competitions.

What if there were two judgings, one by the community, and another by the moderators? I think that would work best, but you would have to either split the prize, or double it so both get 25$. Also, I say Video Games only <3

I'd personally like it if we didn't limit the carvings to just video games, just cause my mom always has me carve our pumpkin, and it usually ends up being Michael Jackson, so unless you counted it as Moonwalker, that's not really video games :P

If you're referring to that, I can definitely attempt it. Might take a while, but it certainly looks doable.

What I think:
Free-for-all designs voted on by users would be best. Pics must have proof that the user submitting the entry did it for SG (in the form of a piece of paper in the frame that says "SteamGifts FTW" or something.)
Votes could be in a forum thread or some sort of dedicated page created specifically for voting. Remember the Head2Head on SteamGameSales? That would be perfect.
The top three could receive prizes in the form of Steam cash or games. My vote is for the cash, as the user might not want the prize.

Very interesting contest :) In my country we also do not have this tradition, however I just wanted to congratulate the mods for coming up with such an amazing idea. Not only is it generous but also motivates people to participate and be more active in the community. Hopefully this will help bring more members of S. Gifts together and encourage them to further contribute to the improvement of this great place, be it by distributing more titles or just hanging around in the forums and chat.
Keep up with the excelent work guys.

I second this, despite the circumstances. :) It's a great idea, especially as a seasonal thing. Might be neat if there were a similar event for Christmas and maybe something for easter like a video game themed egg painting competition of sorts. Just some thoughts!

Man all these people who don't celebrate because it isn't the norm are kinda lucky. When I was younger my mother would forbid me to celebrate because it was an unholy holiday. Talk about completely missing the point huh? Well I love my mom but it sucked doing nothing when everyone else was getting candy....ahh memories!

When should our carvings be in by and where do we submit them?

I think we should stick to video games as our theme... after all, we ARE a gaming community :P But even if we go with a "free-for-all" theme, I personally would carve my pumpkin with something related to games.
Proof: A piece of paper with your username and "SteamGifts" written on it. Because, it's too easy to download a picture from the internet and -type- in the picture that you made it.
Voting: I can't decide... I'm up for anything.
Also, how are we submitting our pictures? Email or via forum or something?

Greetings community,
We're pleased to announce our first ever Halloween pumpkin carving contest. Now that's out of the way, here's where you come in.
Since this is our first ever pumpkin carving contest, we wanted to know how the community felt regarding rules, voting, and how pumpkins are judged. Should we have mods only vote, user choice, or a bracket similar to what you might see during March Madness? How about proof?
How about themes? Should it be a free-for-all when it comes to what is allowed to be entered or "video games" only?
We were also looking for members that would be interested in donating gifts to the top few entries. We would enjoy a good turn out and some pumpkins that put mine to shame. We appreciate any suggestions and donations to this spo_oooo_ky competition.
Of course, that's not all. Please note that the top entries will be rewarded for best pumpkin of 2011! We're hammering out the details, but how about winner receives $25 worth of games from the Steam store? Their choice.
-regards
