EDIT (2021-06-07) I just wanted to say that I check all the games You are recommending, but I won't reply to every comments. And I really appreciate new recommendations as I already got new wishlist items thanks to people!

Hey, I've been thinking how pity it is that one of the best games are so unknown, that I thought of making this threat.

As underrated game, we are talking about game that is:

  • More than average, something great and exceptional
  • Not well known or aren't getting attention it deserve

You may list any number of games You want, but it must meet both conditions mentioned above.

Mine is pretty simple. It is WARP. Game that has very good rating, yet not many people seem to know it. It's discussed nowhere on the Internet. No artworks, no forums, no anything. Literally as people wouldn't know that game exist. I have seen only one fanart of this game. There are videos on YouTube from it, but YouTube has many things in its repertoire, as people will always send and upload things even barely known there. But it still isn't that popular or known.

WARP is puzzle platformer action stealth game. You are an alien called Zero, who has been abducted from his world and people makes experiments on aliens in the underwater facility. You have the ability of warping (who would have thought!), but You constantly gain more and more powers. The gameplay is varying with playstyles. You can be more stealthy, use more agility or just think things through. Or combine all of it! It's very unique, but it's not just unique. The unique gameplay is actually pretty fun, nice and satisfying. To complete the game You need few hours at most, it's not super long game, but it really is something else. You have to hide from enemies, otherwise You are sitting duck for them. But You can use Your brain and agility to go through the facility. Will You be a genocidal maniac or rather quiet stealthy poor little alien? Maybe both? Maybe none? You decide how You play.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/102850/Warp/

So what are Your underrated games? Also, please, say something about the game(s) You are mentioning, so people will understand what is it about.

PS Also my game, WARP is Steam game, but it needs EA things. It's not invasive, You just login and that's all. You use Origin as a DRM, so it requires You to have an account there + makes it unable to family share. Though the game is cheap. And currently it's even cheaper as it has 80% off and it cost only two dollars.

Block Story, StoneHearth and Cube World. First game is Minecraft in other rpg style, but with different functional. StoneHearth is easy building simulator, maybe strategy, where you can create village with people and upgrade this, like Craft the World, but in 3D more pixelated style. Cube World is pixel RPG, I think created by one man, where you can play in multiplayer too, i liked in past in this game to finding more animals and making them followers

I think... I may have seen few or all of them long time ago. Definitely there was many Minecraft clones. I remember one that looked promising. Though I don't recall if it's one of those games You've mentioned or not.

Was coming here just to say this. Amazing game, filled my itch for a new ICO-series like game.

RiME is another amazing title

Just...don't let people talk you in to trying Torren...that was a terrible game. >.<

Myst: Masterpiece Edition: it didn't age well, but still, a lot of memories... and loyal to the original 8-bit Myst (1993), Not sure if I'm happy that Cyan announced a new remake for virtual reality.

Miasmata immediately came to my mind when I saw this thread. Such an atmospheric and great game, I really loved to play it. I can understand it's not for everyone, but I think the 'mostly positive' ratings don't do it justice. It's more a 'love it or hate it' type of game, so if you are interested at all in this type of game you should definitely give it a try to see how you like it.

The Eador series.

A bit similar to Heroes of Might & Magic or Disciples but lesser known by others.

I like the richness of content it contains in this fantasy world.

I'll break a lance for Planet Explorers https://store.steampowered.com/app/237870/Planet_Explorers/

Planet Explorers is an open world sandbox adventure RPG game set on a distant planet. The game uses a new OpenCL calculated voxel system to allow players to change the terrain in any way, create new objects such as weapons, vehicles, objects, and do it anywhere.

About This Game
In Planet Explorers, it is the year 2287, one of the first colony ships sent out by Earth arrives at the planet Maria, in the Epsilon Indi Star System. During its landing sequence, something appears in front of the massive ship that causes it to lose control and crash into the planet. Some of the colonists survive in lifeboats, but what they find is an unforgiving land filled with creatures ready to outlast the visitors from Earth. Now the survivors must explorer, gather, build, create, fight, and ultimately, build a new home.

I forgot to tell - it's free to play and developed by the same studio that later made My Time at Portia.

Mad Max is pretty nice. Though I don't like that it's a bit grindy and I can't actually unlock things when I want them, because they are unlocked with the story progression. Though I agree, game is fun to play.

The 1st game that popped up in my mind is Lost in Harmony I ended up winning it on a whim but it turned out to be pretty good. Quite short, great music and two different stories that you get to invest in.

There was suppose to be a workshop mode which you can see with its never implemented achievements, but since it has a story it never bothered me plus I'm not a fan of workshop

Somewhat simplistic but straight to the point roguelike. I´ll never cease to be amazed how much depth this game has to offer for friends of the turn-based genre. Also you can regularly get it for less than a buck :D

Just wishlisted Warp and 3'' later un-wishlisted it after reading about EA and Origin. A tiny little game without online-multiplayer features, that you buy on Steam and requires you to have an account in another platform.. So you have to open an account, give your email, put a bunch of other info in there and load it up before you launch the game.. on Steam. By definition that's pretty invasive already. It's not "just login", it never is. Also I've read some threads about problems with the key that people had, not working properly in one or the other platform etc.. Look no further why it's "underrated". More appropriately it's problematic.
Pity because it looks like a fun game.
N.B: I have no specific love or hate feelings towards Origin but I have a specific dislike for games that are not happy sitting in just one platform. And there are still people who don't have an account there.

Well, I don't like EA either, but the game is cool. I agree that there shouldn't be games that makes You use additional launcher. It's very stupid thing. Oh, You sat You don't have feelings towards Origin. Though I got Your point. You buy game on platform A, so why are You needing platform B to launch it? I really understand it. Though if You change Your mind, I still recommend the game.

If you're into hack and slash dungeon crawlers with vampires and loot, then this is your game. While not AAA graphics by any means and with an endearing janky feel created by a one-person development team, then BloodLust Shadowhunter might be right up your alley. This accidental discovery was enough to bring me back to Steam after a 6 year hiatus!

This is one of the best puzzle games to hit Steam last year, and not very many people know about it. People should play it if they want a serious challenge in a puzzle game that really gets you thinking. Don't be surprised if you are stuck on a puzzle for quite a while before being able to move on. There are also bonus puzzles that are extra difficult too, but they are optional.

Puzzle games are usually for small group of people. Most of gamers prefer action or something to happen, instead of thinking. I don't blame them. I prefer games like that usually too. And if there is puzzle game I prefer puzzle platformers than regular puzzle games. Though I don't say no for them.

Road Trip Adventure

A old PS2 game the story is pretty bare bones where you have to compete in a ton of races to become the president of the cars.

The game has a lot of easter eggs and fun minigames/puzzles has quite some difficult quests to beat for the type of game I thought it would be. You have to upgrade your car for the different type of challanges you encounter. You can find some of the cars you race around the cities and recurit them to be on your team during the races gaining you their prize money also but you have to also upgrade their cars as you go on to harder races for them to keep up.

If you have a emulator I 100% recommend this game. atleast 20 hours of gameplay. I went all in with my money at the car casino and lost

:(

I really enjoyed Logigun. The story is so forgettable that I wasn't even paying attention while playing, it's just a slap-on - but otherwise it's a bit like a 2D Portal. different "Logiguns" do different stuff that you have to use to get to the end of the level. You can create platforms, use gravity, I think there's a grappling hook and some form of shield disruptor as well, unless I'm mistaken.
Visually rough around the edges, kind of short, but a totally unique experience and at full price it's only 4€. (Don't hold your breath for a discount, last one was in 2018 August.)

Soulcaster: Part I & II released 10 years ago (and separately the games have even more) and only 18 reviews. It's a unique mix between dungeon crawler and tower defence. From the creators of Escape Goat 1 & 2, which I also find underrated games, but to some lesser extent.

if you have not watched the Higurashi anime, then you should play the Higurashi series of games. a very interesting story, where horror and detective stories are combined against the background of fun days

Divinity 2: Director's Cut: https://store.steampowered.com/app/219780/Divinity_II_Developers_Cut/

Not the greatest RPG of all time, but my god for what it does, it's a fantastic adventure full of light-hearted humour, pretty good combat, lots of secrets to find and treasures to get, and turning into a dragon was a blast. I played through it 3 times on my xbox and mean to do a challenge run on Steam someday.
