Like anything it ain't perfect, but its better than bitdefender, which is the OP question.

Its probably the best free antivirus those days ( kaspersky if you want to pay ).

This being said i use my windows mainly for offline gaming and keep to linux otherwise so i probably don't give as much attention as some other people here to this subject.

Keep Avast!, it's more reliable that BitDefender anyway. I tried BitDefender and uninstalled the thing within a few months. It's the worst A/V I've ever tried. (And I was using McAfee before that, so it should tell you how low my expectations were.)

You should change your Avast. Whether it's to BitDefender, MSE, Comodo, Clam, ESET - that's all up to you. Just plan for what you're going to do after the 9 months, which is getting a free AV to replace it.
