http://www.windowscentral.com/official-steam-app-windows-phone-pops-windows-store

I know that WP isn't exactly the most popular mobile OS out there, but it still has it's fans, including lots and lots of steam users who enjoy the system, like me.
Well, people have been begging to valve to make a windows phone app since windows phone mango as far as I know, and valve never bothered to do so.
And now they finally make it! :D Great news to WP users, we can now enjoy the basic things such as chat, authenticator and trade approval without having to rely on 3rd party apps.

the new app wouldn´t help me either because i have a Windows 7 phone and the app is for 8.1+...

that I fully agree. sadly because of a lot of people who would fall in silly scams and then blame valve, everyone now has to go thru that crap :C

You really think this helps?

phones are easier to hack then pc, they are more available physically to hack then pc and above all that most users use 3rd side program - from the pc because they dont want to use the phone.

this "phone authenticator" was made just to bind further the users to steam client.

  • it demands you additional (unneeded) login step.
  • it demands you additional (unneeded) listing step.
  • it demands you additional (unneeded) trade steps.

the last 2 could have been implemented for the email system, from user side there is no need at all for that system definitely not from security point of view as people are installing 3rd side programs to by pass this headache.

even banks dont use that crap.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to all the security/phishing/hacking/hijacking problems Valve has been dealing with over the years. They pretty much had to take these steps and even now there are still multiple accounts compromised every month.

I am seriously amazed that is the case, really. I have been doing a simple trade today with somebody who was reported as a scammer (no idea if he was, but this was a simple card-for-card trade + some gems).
And for something this simple, I have been told (before reviewing the trade) that this person has been reported and maybe I want to back off. I didn't, so I had it emphasised that I am only getting what is in the trade window and whatever else he might have promised me is not guaranteed at all. The trade window was underlining in red that I am only getting one item (while giving an item and some gems). I proceed and again, being told how the trade is only about stuff in this window and not anything else.

Seriously, if this is how all the automated systems for Steam are currently and people still manage to get scammed, I don't think anybody can do anything about it. Just simple gullibility screwing people over.

No they didnt, there is no additional functionality with the phone over the mail verification.

Did not see that coming. The only info I've seen on it so far was that they just don't give a f** about WP. Gotta admit that's a nice move from Valve.

I was quite surprised too, i gave up on a oficial app long ago after the hundreds of posts in the forum being completely ignored

With all the extra "security measures" they've basically forced upon everyone they had to do it eventually. WP users may not have been the biggest portion of the market but improving access to features such as 2FA and confirmation will only improve Valve's cut on transactions.

It happened! At long last! When no one needs it anymore!
What puzzled me the most, is that GabeN worked for Microsoft, yet he didn't even consider their mobile OS until now...

And what will be next, Half-Life 3?

Well, The Behemoth is a reasonable dev as far as I know.
But yeah, I always wonder who buys all those pre-orders for games we know little to nothing about. Says the guy that keeps buying Groupees bundles without knowing what's inside them :P

While I'm not a user of a windows phone I'm always in favor of apps and programs to be ported to as many OSs as possible.
It's nice to see valve doing good things between all the BS they throw at us.

No way they will, not with the ideas of Win10 ecosystem spanning multiple devices and such. They will stay around at least until that dream of Microsoft's will die, unless they actually manage to make it stick.

They've laid off all almost everyone connected with their phones. Quite why they bought Nokia in the first place god only knows.

I have just began running an android VM for the authenticator. I think I will stick with this as it allows a world of tower defence games via google play. Nice to know this is now a viable back up option though

You need to first use the unbinding code to free up your current authenticator method and then you can switch to the other one, yes.
