The site just chooses a random winner for you and provides you with the e-mail they registered with. You can then give them the game however you find more comfortable. Some people prefer to send it to the winner's e-mail while other prefer to add the winner and send it through the Steam chat. (Personally I prefer the later since then I can have a chat with the winner. ^_^ )

Here's a tip: Don't be discouraged if you don't win a raffle. Your chances of winning a public giveaway are extremely slim.
Also, try to contribute whenever, and be a nice person.

I just did a search for Terraria and there was one giveaway lasting like 3 weeks, I only made mine for two days (Saturday and Sunday) lol Maybe I jumped the gun on that one...
Another question: How does the site register that I have given the gift? I would say that the receiver would confirm it, but I'd hate for the winner to not register it and get me in trouble..

That's okay! The length of a giveaway is totally up to you.
And yes, the site registers that you have given the game by asking the winner to confirm that s/he has received the game. If disputes occur, you can submit a ticket to the support.

The site registers as soon as they confirm the gift on their account: it'll look like this, which a winner can access using this link. To make sure they confirm, you can tell them to go to http://www.steamgifts.com/manage/won and click 'yes' while giving them their gift. You can also mark the gift as 'sent' once the giveaway ends and you've emailed them or traded them the game (but having it checked doesn't affect their ability to mark it received).
It's always preferable to give a gift through Steam instead of email unless there's timezone clashes and you can't reach them. With steam keys, if the winner ends up not marking received you can't reroll if you sent the key through email, so Steam chat/trade is recommended.

This thread should help. Keep in mind that you won't receive points based on the giveaways you make.

Enter giveaways.
Thank people for the giveaways sometimes if you wanna be nice.
When emailing gifts remember to ask them to mark it as received.
To win giveaways just remember to enter them a lot.
I cant think of any other tips I could offer.

I'm new to this site and I just put up my extra copy of Terraria to go live at midnight as a sort of testrun of the functionality of the giveaways. Any kind of specific etiquette that I can adhere to while I'm participating? When the winner is chosen, how do I give him/her the game? Will I have to friend request and do it manually or will there be some fancy "Give gift from Steam Inventory" button on this site that will basically do it automatically? Thanks for your time, and any advice is appreciated.
