So - unpopular onion?

I guess I was never a "trickster" so Among Us doesn't really seem fun to me, but a lot of my friends seem to enjoy it - I guess I dislike lying in any way/shape/form or something.
As for Fall Guys, the visuals are fun and nice to look at, but the game mechanics look like a mess - could be an ok experience but I don't think it's that good.

What do you think attracts people to these games - do you agree or disagree with my POV?

Among us is a clear and simple concept that people enjoy together. Nothing wrong about it.
Same goes for Fall Guys.
It's something "different" and people enjoy it so it's great.

But I don't think these games will stay in focus a long time. These teams are not big enough to keep up the pressure. People already complaining that Fall Guys don't get updates fast enough and it's the same with among us (which is already 2 years old).

Though, with Among Us, the developers cancelled the sequel, so they could work on the first one, so I don't think there will be such a problem as with Fall Guys because they already had some stuff prepared.

I do think they're overhyped and clearly a momentary fad which will disappear. In fact, it's already doing so, as far as I can see in Twitch, where Fall Guys has been losing tons of viewers, and Among Us probably won't take long to do the same.

This doesn't mean I think they're bad games. I can easily explain their popularity because of the social factor they're based on, each in their own way, which makes it so players can feel part of a community in Fall Guys' case and so you can have some quick and easy fun with friends in Among Us' case. But once the "new thing" factor fades over, given their kinda repetitive nature, people will move to something else.

The most popular games seem to be casual games ... mobile games, no matter how much you hate 'em, make collective billions, far outclassing traditional platforms.
These two tap into a larger audience not represented by what we think of as the best or traditional gaming.
I'd say it's the low barrier to entry, intuitive mechanics, simple controls, and most importantly the multiplayer aspect (people being roped in by friends who wouldn't normally on their own)

I'd also throw untitled goose game in this category. A sleeper hit that appeals to a very specific, largely non-traditional gamer demographic. Some of my friends didn't find it up to the hype.

if the games aren't to your liking, that's a you problem. i personally hate military-themed FPS games but i don't go around yelping about Popular Shooter CoD and whatever being overhyped, i just recognize that they aren't to my own tastes and move on with my life.

the funny part with Among Us, is that the game is 2 years old and has been declared "end of life" before the recent explosion.

They announced that they are scrapping Among Us 2 and instead focusing on updates for Among Us 1 now. So at least they are trying to ride the wave it seems

I don't see how someone liking a game should concern you tbh.

Personally i like among us especially with groups on discord/irl but i don't find fall guys being worth my time. Doesn't mean i hate the game

Fall Guys seems cool as long as you don't play 100% of the time, but I'm not buying it full price.
Among Us is meh for me, probably because of my culture but I can't lie at all so I suck at it.

Fall Guys and Among Us are social game, its easy to pick up and not frustrating with our low skill level, so almost all of our friends can play it. I know many of you here are avid gamer, and I'm always find good single player game recommendation. But for multiplayer game, I prefer play simple game like Among Us with 9 of my friends rather than superb game like Overwatch with only 3 of my friends

Regarding Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout:

I can't say much about the game itself because I only played like 5 matches before I de-installed it from my PS4 due to being overly simplistic and the graphic style looking like a pedophile hunting ground. (where pedophiles search for would be victims - not where humans hunt pedophiles for sport)

But I would call it an extremely sucessful marketing ploy:

You take a completely unremarkable game nobody would even notice if it was F2P on Steam and you give it for free to ~ 2 million PS4 users right away on Release day. (also worked great for Rocket League but at least that game was decent)

Then the Steam crowd sees those 2 millions (0,00€) "purchases" and they think it's actually a sucessful game and go nuts buying it.

Twitch is the hype machine
These are party games where its fun is created by the player.
Among us is not a new concept, its just adapted an actual gamplay fit for online.

Fall guys also perfected the format, and its battleroyale effect is keeping it trending
But if they dont add new stuf it will die.

These are always fun with friends or twitch "friend"

Twitch can really boost game sales. Among Us reminds me Morbus Xenogamers on Garry's Mod, but the first one can be played on any toaster and It's súper cheap on sale.

Among us looks like crap game, but my friends forced me to buy it....and now I see, that it is great game.
It is even better, when there is a good group of people. Yesterday i played maybe 10games with only random players and that group was was great and there was a lot of fun!

Fall guys looks like a hell of a lot of fun. I would certainly have bought a copy if I was on a Windows PC. It's a simple concept and looks mega stupid, but that's what makes it great.

These things become a sort of fad where it's great fun because literally everyone is playing it and so you have no issues finding people to play with. That doesn't mean it's over-rated. A game is only as good as the enjoyment people get out of it.

Having played neither game I can just judge them at face value.
Fall Guys seems like a hot mess, I'm sure it can be fun if you're into that type of thing though. But to me, who never had a console growing up, its movement and setup seem very console-oriented and I generally try to shy away from such games.
Among Us is probably alright tho, but most likely more fun with friends and best enjoyed in short bursts - so it's basically a "party game", which I also tend to shy away from.

Well... those type of games are meant to be played with a gamepad for sure (otherwise you're heading for repetitive strain injury), but you don't need a console. =)
