I can only mention 2 in the wanted list: Blade & Soul and Black Desert, OP games each one in it own category (Blade & Soul will be available in January, Black Desert coming up probably on the second half of 2016)
Ah! And BTW, Tera is DEAD since some heavy changes they made, the EU server had already a real bad company handling it (and this is the second one doing the bad work....), and Enmasse, which is behind the US one and was nice and good, made a 180 degrees turn and betrayed basically 90% of the fanbase...

And they ruined it, specially if you didn't get to endgame gear before the US servers change...and I don't think they will return back to the previous system since they now only want to take all the $$$ they can before Blade & Soul takes off and takes out all their remaining fanbase :/

What exactly happened with the US Tera? I'm from EU but used to play there. Stopped playing long ago (before all the new classes/gear/dungeons came out, when there was still The Nexus or maybe soon after they removed it, not sure). I played some after the release of Reaper class just to try it but dropped it quickly.

They made lots of changes on the US server...specially killing the economy and the ways to get gold...which was basically a stupid move, since many rich players would gladly buy from the TERA shop and give Enmasse lot of $$$ for repeated things they could exchange for fast gold (which was allowed under the official market in the game), now, new players can barely farm money for their own needs, and the premium items x gold it's ruined forever (and this is just the biggest issue, they also made a lot of micro changes in every place possible which all together sent the game to the trash) And keep in mind this changes was made by Enmasse, not by the Korean publisher (Enmasse alleged this on the beginning but they was discovered by Korean and other SEA servers fans), you can check the official US forums if you want and if they still didn't deleted the hundred of posts and messages with reclaims and protests about this honest BS. This is why TERA players dropped down so quickly since last days of August IIRC

See? Indeed, most of them just fled from the game when this "update" happened. Do you wanna know what actually irritated more the fans? The attitude from Enmasse. Not only they first denied these changes as made by them, saying it all come up from the Korean original version and they couldn't do anything about it with Bluhole, but when fans showed up and put enough proof (videos, screenshots, comparisons, etc) on the forums bout how it still works on Korean and SEA servers vs the US one, one of the mayor community managers of the official Enmasse mods wrote a lot of negatively comments against the WHOLE community, reaching the point to openly INSULT players and all (including banning members for no reasons/no broken rules, creating "new rules" on the fly, closing/deleting any topic about talking the "truth", even pinned a message with threats and all,etc etc), that was like the strawberry on top of the cake, since those "incidents", most left, and Tera servers are pretty dead to this days, for God's sake...

Happy cake day!
I played it since day1 as tank (sorc/aura/def and changed to heal/aura/def from time to time) - I had a manor and mining was the main occupation. When they introduced the TS tree on box, lots of people from my clan stopped playing and 3 weeks after that I had no one to do dungeons with anymore (literally half of the server was playing farmville with better graphics) and stopped playing as well.

Probably you play on the US server, otherwise the EU one is pretty dead and buried long ago. Anyways, "decently populated", perhaps on weekends, and also keep in mind the always new players (most of them are kiddos, or ppl from the dead EU servers and from countries like Turkey, Indonesia and Philippines...not trying to be disrespectful or something like that here, I'm just only pointing out and measuring real pop on MMOs like this one) which actually think the game is "truly" F2P until they hit the CR cap and need all the DLCs or either to pay the premium subscription...otherwise I think it's dead, DCUO isn't on any decent MMO population chart since a year ago or even more, and there is a good reason behind it: SOE. SOE was actually voted as the WORST "big" company handling MMOs. And yes, that include Everquest 1 & 2 and the recent H1Z1. And all the DLCs BS on DCUO? Where are all the old promises of changing things for good, revamping again some powers instead making new "Flavor of the month" ones, etc ,etc. And don't make me even comment about the exclusive auras in 20 U$S boxes and with a low chance to get them. Honestly they have one of the worst policies I ever seen for a big title with a big franchise (no one else than DC and Warner Bros), which is a pity since the game engine, the ability to fly or be a speedster or play as an acrobat (aka Batman), the open cities maps, are really nice, otherwise...the game now sucks, and hard. As a fun final fact, long ago I asked myself why "The Big Bang Theory", which belonging to Warner and is always trying to push any kind of DC merchandise over Marvel and anime, never gave any promotion (at least a small one, like seeing some of the guys playing it at least one second in one miserable episode) to DCUO...instead they made a WHOLE episode back ago to promote...the Conan MMO...which is now dead as hell. The answer from the production was "we will not give credit to a lame game like DCUO" (or something like that, I remember I saw that and a link to a trustful source in a TBBT site), and if you are going to even ask, no, it doesn't have anything to do with the game being handled by Sony instead Warner...Sony is in war (or at least was...now is FOX) with Marvel, not DC/Warner. And after all, if you know how Hollywood and the US TV really works, they are all the same BS.... (I still remember when "Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles" happen to be kicked and "fly" from Warner to FOX...still in my country we watched both season on Warner...yeah, what a laugh...)

As for best MMO I've played, probably WoW. GW2 probably comes second but I remember it having very little end game and most of my friends stopped playing it not long after reaching max level, wonder how it does with the new expansion.

Naa ive been playing it since early pc beta and it has come along way, sure there are things i would change about it if i could, that said i think most bad reviews from it come from skyrim players thinking they are getting a new skyrim and wow fans who dislike any game other then wow lol.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Granted. Many players thought ESO was going to be an exact copy of Skyrim, which is impossible for actual MMO standards. Also the WoW heavy fans really dislike anything "no WoW", same with many MOBA players (call it LoL, Dota, Smite, etc)

Still I may suggest you to check some videos about the upcoming Black Desert MMO and compare it to both ESO and Skyrim...it's probably the most "Skyrimest" game out there, specially with all the probabilities, like having houses and furniture them, owning real shops and selling to other players directly, the need to have supplies for them (from hunters, adventurers, crafters, etc), and also the supply lines...which CAN be robbed by other players, which brings a lot of interesting tactics for being a highwaymen style player, or how to defend from them (hire guards, mercs, etc), all of this with really stunning graphics. Honestly Korea is lately kicking every other country butt making MMOs, not only for their great graphical quality, also for their content and styles of gameplay (except for MOBAs and Shooters perhaps...)

yea i think my biggest complaint towards ESO is there terrible guild store system for selling items, people are forced to use local chat to sell things make local chat useless for anything other then bartering, the other thing would be the storage and lack of houses, i was forced to make a guild then turn it private just so i could use the guilds storage for my characters items.only other thing that bothers me about the game is Zenimax just ignores the community's suggestions as to how to make the game better. but over all the game is still very enjoyable for most people at least until the three campaigns are done the end game (vet) is pretty bland unless you into Pvp.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The main problem is, as you mentioned, the company in charge of the game....when a company, specially one behind a MMO, doesn't hear its own community suggestions, then, the game mostly get the "fatal mark" over it...ppl always keep going to new uncharted MMOs to find one suitable for them. Or just ask the guys behind Marvel Heroes (Gazillion) what happened to them when they decided to turn violent against their own community...or read my own comment on this same post about what happened to TERA...

yea its always a shame when a company thinks it knows whats best for there game and ignores there customers and end up with a game with no players and they point blame on everyone but themselves.

Comment has been collapsed.

Basically the 90% of the companies, when they see the game is going to "die soon", change some things (the way the game works, adds some lame new but necessary to play endgame content, etc) in a way the members need to waste more money on the MMO, so they rip them off the more they can before the game dies. I "could" (but not support ofc) understand somehow that, but in most MMOs they do this move of "let's take all the money from the people even if we are winning a lot anyways per month" on their peek levels, getting the opposite reaction and scaring away the players, happened to Marvel Heroes, TERA, Archeage, and a lot of games which went either P2W or "F2P but actually P2P" or "get good content only paying and period. Still I have seen a few, very few honest indie companies which tells the fanbase when things are not going good or even if they are going to close soon and even give back the money for the rest of the period of the membership or even for the last premium items purchases since X months ago, and don't rip-off them instead or just fled with the money.
And as you well say, they will always blame the costumers, not themselves, even when the company goes to bankruptcy or they are kicked by the original publisher since they handled the game bad on their region. I sometimes wonder how they actually choice their community managers and production team, in most cases they suck a lot (and I have some exp being GM on some games)

Guild Wars 2 used to be it, i've spent over 2000€ over the years on gems (lol) but the expansion came too late, i still bought it but i just can't go back.

I play Final Fantasy XIV, which lacks end game, so it's frustrating and easy to stop playing, been doing pvp almost max rank, otherwise i wouldn't play it.

I played WoW, it's an ok game, just not my type of combat, too slow for my taste, even with those graphics i like it, but i also hate the game, because Warcraft 3 was my first PC Game and on top 10 of my favorites of all time, then WoW came, no Warcraft 4 so screw it.

I've played both Black Desert Alpha and Blade & Soul closed beta, i like both, but B&S even with those graphics is amazing, i'd say people who play GW2 should give it a try.

Also there's an MMO to look out for, called Revelation Online, seems nice.

I just would love for Aion 2 (always liked the sense of freedom by being able to fly) to come out, that would be great.

FFXIV patch this week will add more level 60 content, which should help a bit. I don't think they're adding any awesome raids, but they're uncapping Alex normal for farming if you're that far behind and adding a new 24 man raid which will drop upgrades for esoteric gear, so there's more progression to do. They're also buffing the payout for Frontlines PvP experience payout, so you'll hit that max rank faster.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The problem is that end game will still be one raid with 4 levels, there should be a few more, uncap alex is pointless to me, the 24-man raid is ok, i actually miss those, again there should be more, everything in this game is limited, i pay a sub for limits, it's frustrating. Weekly tome cap, weekly gather and craft tome cap, one raid, one hardcore raid, sigh, if it wasn't for pvp it would be 2 months now i wasn't playing the game.

I'm rank 49 in pvp, i suppose i'll finish 50 this week with the buff to exp, i suppose they increased the exp not just to get people to play pvp but also because i'm sure that on 3.2 they'll add new pvp items, probably rank 55 which would take a lot of time with the current exp so it's to speed things up a bit.

I also don't like Alex Savage, boring fights, i miss 2nd Coil, best end game i've ever done.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I mean, I'm not sure Square knows how to make good raids anymore. 2nd Coil was definitely their crowning achievement, and just having more filler like Alex isn't really great. Alex Savage seems like just hard mode Alex without anything to make it interesting. While I understand that it's difficult to keep implementing new mechanics if you keep implementing mechanics (does that make sense?) Alex just felt old and blah, and the EX primals are ruined for me by the fact that, well, people can't clear in pub parties (It took me two months to clear Bis Ex because I kept going as a healer, couldn't do DPS, failed to DPS checks every time. Leveled a tank and got it in two tries because WAR DPS too good) and it's not really fun mechanics, just chores.

That said, I'm still looking forward to it. Hopefully the new dungeons are good, and the Diadem might be more interesting depending on how it's implemented, so I'm pretty hyped for the patch. The 24 man is probably going to become a chore, because pubs are bad, but whatever, still probably worth it once or twice a week for the loot.

I'm always pumped every new patch, it's just that there's not enough content in the game, the game is almost a Ghost town these days, on HW launch there was so many people i can't describe, i guess all feel the same way.

Comment has been collapsed.

I can sympathize with that- I've been barely on for the last month because, well, server dead, no point grinding past weekly payouts.

Sounds like they're making 50-60 faster, so maybe I should get more classes up to 60.

GW2 was fine to some point for me which was april feature patch 2014(when trait system got changed to exploration mode). And then add to it and the Living Story that was really dull(do 2-3 times the same mission for achievs? DAFUQ!!) which made just stop playing the game but still checking forums every now and then.

WvW was my favourite mode but nah... it was ruined for me once they added FoV slider in game which made acs OP in both attack and defense .

After GW2 I tried Firefall and liked it since it feels like GW2 but since its an shooter it was more action oriented. Sadly game wasnt as big as GW2 but was funnier.

They did a lot of wrong things to Guild Wars 2, i just can't get into it anymore, from temporary content, to living story crap, to 1 hour of new content every 2 weeks, to milking the game hard over the time on the gem store and not doing an expansion, i bought the expansion and that's the last time i spend money on the game, even if a new expansion would come out i won't buy it, they should just start Guild Wars 3 at this point, but tbh i don't care anymore, i miss Guild Wars 1.

The best part is that how they insisted on Living Story and that it was working and ended up doing what people have been asking for, the expansion too bad it came way too late, good luck ANet, i'll see you in GW3... if it ever comes out.

Comment has been collapsed.

They tried 3 kind of Living Story ... I liked the first one which felt dynamic since it come and it go, no going back... but then in LS2 they just lost me with the whole journal part. Now they give it for free for the first 2 weeks but then ask $2.5 per episode... sadly quality was low and it was more of a setup for the expansion than a complete story like LS1(Scarlet saga or w/e you want to call it).

But yeah... Gem Store really started to feel like milking .. especially when they added the watchwork pick that was adding unfairness .. not much but It could easily bring me great amount of profit from doing ANY kind of mining run.

I didnt buy the expansion because

  1. As I said already, another MMO took me
  2. Too many changes that ruined the fun in the game for me
  3. It seems to be rushed(less than an year between announcment and release)
  4. Because of the gem/gold ratio ( with 30-40% lose) I was acting like a god damn gold seller for friends every now and then.

I think the "funniest" change they made was the open world boss schedule ... it was just a horrible idea.. " We offer you a dynamic events .. and now you can kill bosses by following their schedule).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, i hate timed stuff, between the weekly limits in FFXIV and having to be at that hour everyday to kill the same damn world boss, sigh. Also precursor drops are a joke, i bet 99% of precursors come from the Mystic Forge, i have 3k hours and never got one as drop.

Also the Watchwork mining pick, yes that says a lot.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I also spent around 3.5k hours and never got a precursor drop.. hell the most expensive exotic I got was like 25gold . On the other hand I only used gold to buy gems since most armor skins I didnt like and the whole legendaries... well it doesnt feel legendary when you can buy it from a store.

I spent quite a lot of gold on Mystic Forge but no luck so just ended up on save bet with buying Black Lion skins cheap and reselling big but then saw no point in playing the game since I couldnt be arsed with WvW(because of the stability change) , PvE(was hard for me to find a party that was good and not running zerk meta) and sPvP(conquest mode was boring and there were broken builds)

Hell exploration got boring after I 100% it on my main. Decided to go for jumping puzzles but sometimes was pain.

But yeah... Firefall reminded me a lot of GW2 with its freedom , add to this dynamic events and fully voiced quests and you can have quite a good time. on the bad side though it isnt polished and seems they may add some p2w elements in their new version(they just keep reworking the game annually).

WoW just came about the right time and was a good game (even though I was never interestedin as I played DAoC). But all what happened afterwards was... well... devastating.

In addition to all those WoW clones there also came F2P and P2W. Those paying systems are won of the causes that created toxic communities in MMORPGs.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, WoW was published at the right time, at the right moment, and with the right gameplay (not like now...) It basically ate alive UO and all the MMOs on the market
What happened next...yeah, it was...100% pure BS...basically everyone wanted a piece of the cake so they went into the MMO market massively...it's like all the new indie publishers on Steam which previously was making F2P flash games and the such, and now they make...honestly, very veryyyy bad games with Unity engine or a similar one and sell them for 10 bucks or even more...gosh (there are some nice and great exceptions, ofc)
And indeed, the P2W system, and the fake F2P (actually "freemium") one are the reason of all the aggressiveness which made me hold back from lots of MMOs filled with elitism and ppl wanting to put all their IRL hate and problems into a multiplayer game and against everyone in their path....

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed, pretty much what I meant. World of Warcraft changed the World of Gaming.
There are very few games that really are F2P. I mean those that don't ask money at all or those that only give cosmeticals.
I have to facepalm when I ignorant people think that saving time with money is already P2W. Time is more precious than money and a faster progress is a big advantage.

I don't know if you heard about Camelot Unchained but the devs of that game try to take a path that is non-mainstream. I hope they succeed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I will definitively give a look at Camelot Unchained, i don't know if they will attain a true F2P mode or what, and even if they will succeed with that, anyways, if they are going to make the same mistakes as Gazillion did with Marvel Heroes (which at the right time was a real 100% F2P game with just some cosmetics and temp exp/drops power-ups in their premium market) or Enmasse with the US version of TERA, then "they will never learn", as I always say...
