Tried asking both Bundle Stars and Paypal but haven't gotten a response yet and figured you guys may have a solution.

I bought a $20 Vanilla Visa gift card so I could buy one of Bundle Stars bundles. Namely the Outer Limits bundle. So I make a Paypal account, put the bundle in my BS cart and go to check out. Then it tells me that the transaction was refused. I'm positive that I have enough money on the card (I just got it today AND the Vanilla Visa site tells me that it has $20 on it) and I'm positive I entered the information correctly. I don't have a regular debit or credit card with which to make purchases, so this was my only option. All my Steam purchases have been done via Steam gift cards, btw.

Anyone know what could be causing the problem? Or that I may be doing wrong and may not realize?

Edit: Just got a response back from Paypal. Automated response that was completely unhelpful and had absolutely nothing to do with the question I asked. Figures.

I don't know how it works with prepaid Visas but Paypal might do the same thing it does with bank accounts and verify that there is something on the card before it lets you use it? It's the only thing I can think of.

Do they do that automatically?

Have you registered the card with your area code on the vanilla visa website yet?

Yep. Already did that.

Looks like BundleStars supports Google Wallet, maybe your card prepaid card will work through that payment processor. Might be worth a try.

I've never used that before but browsing over the page it looks to be something related to cell phones. Is it? I don't have a cell phone.

It's related to your Google account, if you have one.

But I don't need a cell phone to use it, right?

No only a Google account

Nope, just a Google account. You can even have them send you a physical debit card if you want. Just go to http://google.com/wallet and sign in with your Google account and it will let you add a debit card to your account on there. Then even though your technical "Wallet Balance" will be zero, you can use your Wallet account at Bundlestars and it will take it off of your debit card, if you are able to add that one there.

I have my real debit hooked up to mine that is from my bank, but I have hooked up other prepaid debit cards to similar services before, so I think it should work. Give it a shot.

I tried to buy it and it said this "Your credit card was declined. Please select another payment method or contact your credit card issuer to authorize this purchase." on the Google Wallet pop up. Why is it being declined?

Hrmm, actually it may be pinging your Wallet account to verify it's real by trying to take a temporary monetary amount away from it. I think I may have had a similar problem when trying to add a different card type to wallet now that I think about it.

I looked and it seems to have taken $1 off for some kind of verification thing. But it's still not going through.

Give it a few minutes then, as it sounds like that's a good sign that it has pinged your account and is probably in the process of verifying it. I would say that when it refunds the $1 back to you, your account will be fully verified and then you will be able to use it.

Wish I could help more tonight, but I need to get to bed. I wish you much luck and will check back for replies when I wake up.

So I should just wait a few hours and check and see if it refunded it?

I've had the same problem with Bundlestars and Indie Royale lately. Stopped using my debit card and just started using visa gift cards instead and those two sites haven't let me buy from them using those cards even through paypal.

Only way I've found of getting around it is to have a friend buy it as a gift for you and then you just pay them by sending them the money through paypal. There might be a paypal fee for you doing it this way though.

Prepaid Visas can at times be pesky to use online because online payment processors require a billing address for verification and prepaid Visas don't come with those by default. What you'll probably have to do is go to the website and fill in your information on there so it has a billing address to pull from. If you have already done that, may be possible that it takes some time to actually update, banks are notoriously slow, after all.

If all else fails, contact customer support for the Visa. Someone there should be able to tell you what you need to do to use it online.

Well I found the problem. I called 800 number and spoke to someone and he said that the Vanilla Visa gift cards cannot be used on international purchases and Bundle Stars is based in the UK. That's why it was being declined. I guess I'll just add it to my Steam wallet or something. I guess no Outer Limits Bundle for me :( Oh well. No big deal. Really sucks though. I wish I had known before I bought the card...
