...and if so, did you like the outcome? The only game I ever pre-ordered was Abyss Odyssey (and I still didn't have time to try it), anything that ACE Team does is an insta-buy for me and I want to support them as a studio.

Whoosh, those years fly by.

These days I really only pre-order when I'm happily playing something that's expanding, usually an MMO. I've pre-ordered a couple of expansions in ESO - I'm on a break from ESO for a while - and just picked up the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, Beyond Light. Otherwise I am usually content to wait.

As far as satisfaction, it's usually pretty much guaranteed in a "more stuff pretty much like this" way: I'm already playing the current game, so the pre-order is more of the fun I'm already having.

I only pre order things that I am sure I will play as they released or if I want to back them up.

Witcher 3, Vampire The Masquerade 2, Phoenix Point, Hades,

I also wish I used my discount from Epic Games with Cyberpunk before they changed the rules.

I also bought some games on Steam which are still under developed too.
I remember a Chinese developers FPS which was quite good even only a chapter is complete.

I'm guilty as charged as far as preorders go. I haven't been able to buy games all that much recently due to the recent financial struggles but when I had an extra income, I pre-ordered a bunch of games back in the day despite the growing frustrations with several of them turning out to be massive disappointments. No Man's Sky was indeed probably the biggest slap in the face 4 years ago and I thought I was done after that whole saga leaving an immensely bitter taste in my mouth. But alas, I ended up none the wiser and still pre-ordered a couple of games after that anyway like Kingdom Come Deliverance or Yakuza 0, both of which I had a jolly good old time with.

I'm hopeful that this temporary break would help me resist the urge to preorder games in the future but I know that hideous temptation can be irresistible when you get caught up in the moment :D

Prey (2017) was great, so that time was pretty good. But, I also pre-ordered Mass Effect:Andromeda and while I didn't hate it, it was very disappointing.

I have pre-ordered a handful of titles. Some turned out to be great games. Others turned out to be "duds." I am not a big fan of pre-ordering (for obvious reasons), but I still pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2077.

Frostpunk and Anno1800. Disappointed both times only because they both came out with season passes after that weren't buyable as "ultimate edition" beforehand and you know how season passes are what's never on discount or are the bulk of the cost in a GOTY bundle so it's a big FU to anyone who pre-orders.

Don't get me wrong, I loved both games but felt used.

Brink, it wouldn't start for most people at launch. I got it later and had a blast, wasn't many people left playing it and I'd like to play more.
My regret was refunding it.
just looking at my transactions page - scratch that there are way too many to list :/ but OMEGAYIKES would be these;
Takedown: Red Sabre
BATTLETECH
Nosgoth - Great game but I did pre-order the priciest edition, which accounts to nothing now, since the only way to play is through a Discord mod where everybody has all weapons and cosmetics unlocked :P
Rainbow 6 Siege - Almost have 1.2k hours on it from back in the day but it is not the same game anymore.
Otherwise relatively happy with my purchases and there are some of the best games I played there...
Oh and Cyberpunk is complete ass. Couldn't refund it because I "played" 0.3h over :c So I kept playing and it didn't get better to put it lightly.

Not since Xbox 360 days when gang of friend's would all get Battlefield, COD, etc. to play on launch night. I have so much of a backlog now, and friends rarely play together now, there's no need to pre-order anything.

Kinda regret GTA V since the campaign was a let down, and the game overall felt like I grew out of it...
