All this talk about net neutrality has got me thinking about how much a free market actually does to keep price competitive, especially with all the monopolies that telecommunication companies have all over the world.

I currently pay $40 USD a month for 200Mbps fibre internet, home line with free local calls and a "slightly" unreliable IPTV. And more for cable TV obviously. I could have 1 Gbps for the same price without IPTV but no switching mobile phones every year. So how much do you pay for your internet? I live in Singapore BTW and I feel so bad about complaining right now...

Actually I just want to give away a copy of Contrast but need a reason to open a thread. LVL 1 and above only though.

Edit: Over sorry.

P.S. Obligatory John Oliver video. That man's a genius.

Do you feel ripped off by your telco/carrier?

In theory, I pay nothing - Internet (1gbps down/250mbps up, no caps), phone (basic sub, not minutes) and basic cable is included in the monthly condo fee, and that fee is pretty low even compared to condos that don't include such amenities.

I pay 45 u$d for 10 mbps, and that's a good speed here in Argentina. If you aren't lucky and the good ISP don't operate in your zone, you must pay 40 u$d for 1 mbps. That's right, one sad mebabit per second for forty dollars.
That's sad...

10$ for 100mb/s with no limit. I should really switch providers considering I could get 1gb/s for ~12$ from a different one :/

Jesus Christ, I'm not even going to bother posting what we pay for ours. Just reading this thread makes me want to call Telstra & abuse the fuck out of them.

Uhm. I leave in Romania and I think I pay less than 30$ for 100MB/s, TV cable and phone line.

My carrier now delivers 1GB/s and I think it cost ~40 - 45$ /mounth.

I am very pleased with my Internet situation, I see that a lot of you pays a lot for a very slow Internet speed.

I'm sorry for you all guys.

0€/month for 100mbps. No limitations. Included in the rent which is a student accommodation - a cheap one. If I remember right, the gigabit net was available for 30€/month. Welcome to Finland.

Not a monopoly here, though. The infrastructure is just really bad.

29€ for 100Mbps no limits, phone flat and mobile(+500mb internet) flat+ free cable TV. This was a special offer; normally it would cost around 55€. But yeah... sometimes you get pretty good deals here in germany.
