So I´ve always wondered a little what happened to the people of Linden Labs after the skyrocketing success and crushing fall of Second Life (probably one of the shortest examples I´ve seen a huge hype last) and recently through a promotion for the Humble Introversion bundle I found out...

They call themself Desura now and are running a socalled "Digital Distribution Platform" - something similar to Steam but it´s not Steam. (nor Orgin or Uplay)

Apparently they focus on mods & user created content.

Is Elvis also still around ?

I didn´t claim it was breaking news :D I was just surprised when I found out a few weeks ago since I didn´t hear ANYTHING from them since SL ~ 10 years ago. Just wouldn´t have expected them to have the assets (anymore) to purchase anything.

Also I wasn´t aware that they bought something that previously existed. I assumed the rebranded Linden Labs to Asura.

Besides what K3w3L said about Desura, their Second Life game hasn't gone anywhere either. Is this a joke post?

I wasn´t even aware that it still existed but that was kind of the point of my post: I just assumed they disapeared of the face of the earth after SL and it put a grin on my face to find out what they are doing now but yea as you might guess from the phrasing it was not ment completly serious but rather (mimicking) an anthorpolic standpoint because nobody knows what Desura is. At least I didn´t a few months ago and I´m normally rather informed when it comes to videogames.

Lol Yea indeed I am. Otherwise I might have heard of Desura earlier since they have promotional freebies every now and then.

There is no "after SL"... SL is still going. It may not be quite at the height it was several years back but it's still strong. LL also developed Patterns, and is working on developing what's essentially a next-gen SL.

Also, I have it on good authority from my man Kay that Elvis is not dead, he just went home. I mean, umm... bright flash of light it's just a weather balloon. Full of swamp gas. Yup.

:D Talking about next-gen SL I was suprised that Sony didn´t put more effort into Playstation Home. I only saw a trailer ages ago but to me it looked like a better looking version of SL. A buddy of mine gave it a brief try but was deterred by the fact that you have to download each new area you enter first. I guess they just didn´t give the users the proper tools to create their own content since that is what SL is about.
