i have been in and out of here multiple times by now and i still don't know what to say.
it's unreal!
seeing his signature 0% CV was basically part of every day for i don't even know how long.
may he find peace and his friends & family heal with time.
this is a reminder to all of us to take good care of the ones around us.

I wanted to wait for a while before saying anything, but I believe now is the right time.
Haven't talked to him much at all, given that I'm mostly a lurker here. He was one of the first people to add me to his whitelist, and even offered me a game on my wishlist without hosting a giveaway for it. He was a pleasant and cheerful gentleman to be around, with his quirky posts in French and Italian.
After seeing it in this year's community train, I wish that I could say "bumpobello" to him once.
May he rest in peace.

Rest in Peace icaio, now you're feeling much better since you're with Jesus King of the kings and Lord of the lords, Amen.
My deepest condolences to his family.

Yes I heard it other times (I love quotes and I have several books of them). But the usual is to remember the quote and not the name, unless it's a famous name. And master Oogway was the only name I could remember.
The problem with this kind of quotes is that it's really hard to know who said it first. Probably it's older than all known instances. Or an old(ish) proverb.
In spanish, gift and present have the same meaning than in the quote, so it translates well. I wonder how it's translated to languages where "present" doesn't have those two meanings.

Thanks for the update, Canis.
As you I was hoping this would be an evil hoax, but alas it is not.
The man will be sorely missed, that is for sure.
Bloody hell, an embolism? On top of all the cancer related issues he had?
Life does seem to have a sick sense of humour sometimes....
If you speak to the cousin/mother again - send all my love and sincere condolences.

I do not know how, but somehow I made it on icaio's whitelist a few years ago. I do not remember if I ever entered one of his countless giveaways, but it was always nice to see them and to know that I could enter if I want to.
He was such a generous person!

Hey all. I am going to start by saying that I do not have any more information than what I am sharing in this post.
EDIT: as it turns out, I do have some more information
ANOTHER EDIT, just a quick update
As some of you know, icaio has not been on SG for a while, and he hasn't logged into his Steam profile either.
I posted on his Steam profile a few weeks ago, just a quick note saying I hoped he was okay.
Yesterday I received a friend request on Steam from someone I did not recognize. I didn't see any obvious red flags, so I accepted.
This new friend sent me a message today, saying that they were icaio's cousin, and they saw my post on his profile and wanted to let me know that icaio passed away on September 30.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that icaio was an absolute legend of Steamgifts. His generosity, sense of humor and thoughtfulness came through in every 'showerthinking' post and every 'trash' game giveaway and every time he helped to solve a derailment in the community train.
Before I visited Rome a few years ago, caio volunteered to give me his mobile number so I could ask him real-time questions while I was in Italy. And that's exactly what I did! So we didn't quite get a chance to actually meet in person, but it was fun to chat with him while we were in the same country.
Not much more to say right now. Just R.I.P. to icaio, he will always be a Steamgifts legend.
