Today I can celebrate 12 years of service for Gabe and I finally reached level 7 at SG (110 on Steam ;) ). Normaly I would decide to make a train, but its so common. Tell my why you joined the steam & steamgift community. Because of friends? You want to play CS 1.6 (oldschool :P) or DotA? What was your reason? I will add everyone who tells me his story to my whitelist and create a giveaway for Batman™: Arkham Origins Blackgate - Deluxe Edition. If you already own it, feel free to tell us your story anyway :) Have a nice day!

edith say: Decided to make a private giveaway because it would took me to much time to whitelist everyone! :D

Joined Steam sometimes when Portal was free, then haven't used it for years - then snatched a key drop from a forum I was lurking for free games. Then I got involved on that forum, then bundles, then sales and steamgifts. I wanted to leech the heck out of SG, but wanted to get teh infamous 30.01 to do it better. I think that's when SG2 happened that gave at least 15% for bundled game, instead of the 0 SG1 did - while it was a little selfish, I've finally seen getting at least something out of bundle-gifts, so I started getting more and more active :) At this point I'm rather here to throw gifts and for the community than for winning, and I actually enjoy it more than when I just wanted to win more!

I had one friend who would talk how he did a lot of cash by simply trading on Team fortress 2, so I started playing it but I wasn't premium so nothing. After some years, I wanted to buy again the divinity series on steam (larian studios take my money) so I started trading too and from then I use it far too often

It was in 2009 and I wanted to play Portal! Portal 2 was the second game I bought. I was more of a console player before that but I haven't bought any machine since the XBox 360.
Then I discovered the magical world of bundles and started expanding my collection. :)
Regarding SG, I think I ended up here after searching for steam add-ons like EnhancedSteam. I created an account and observed from a distance for a while, then really got into it after 7 months. And now, like everybody, I'm addicted.^^

I joined Steam 12 years ago to play Counter Strike with some friends at college, so I went out and picked up Half Life: Blue Shift for cheap to unlock everything. I may even have the box kicking around somewhere. As for SteamGifts, I heard about it little over a year ago and was hoping to collect a few new interesting games.

I joined Steam because Valve forced me to with their HL2:E1. Then I forgot about it for years until the Internet got fast enough for me to care about downloading games online. I came back for the sale of Alan Wake.
As for Steamgifts, I joined it because, well, free games, of course. Little did I know that I'll find one of the best communities I've ever encountered online. ^^

join steam because want to play dota2,
here in my country, not everyone can afford an original physical game when it release... so pirate games is pretty common,
let say, you have console, either playstation or xbox, but you can afford an original games when it release,
so the solution is, wait till the pirate version is show up,

i know, this is not healthy fo my moral value, so i savings my money, then wait till big discount, then buy it from steam store or buy from humble bundle, or indiegala, or other store that i can afford it,

tl;dr,
somehow steam make me a little proud when i buy original games,

Bought the Counter Strike Anthology from a store and it required steam to play , But nowadays steam is falling behind compared to other digital distributors , being arrogant even .

Reason will be unknown to mortals. Nah just kidding. DotA -> DMC reboot -> sales -> where the heck i get those games -> cards from cheap games -> sales -> more games. For the Gabben, our true Dark Lord, the evil genius who force me to buy shitload of games. Praise the Gabben!!! And also i don't remember why i registred here but after first wins i'd started to create giveaways. So again PRAISE THE GABBEN!!!

I joined the steam long ago with other account that got hacked but i dint had any games so not a big lose... lost 11 years of steam....
But i only really joined three years ago (with this secondary account), wanted to buy my games legit and stoped getting it from the pirates.

And i joined the steam gifts because i wanted to stop trading and had nowhere to give the re-bundled keys and joining here i give them to people that also give things to others, at least the ones that dont do group / whitelist only giveaways.

True story, I have joined steam several times. Like 6-7 years ago I didn't know what was the whole thing about, so when I wanted some game (this ones that are free) I was creating a steam account just to get it. Finally, 4 years ago I understood, and hen I created my account, theone that I have right now, with my library, but I have some abbandoned accounts with 1 game in the library  that I don't remember the name or the password.

I joined Steam because of some guy with a crowbar. It's been so long since I've seen him I'm not sure if he's even alive anymore. Gordon somebody.

And I joined Steamgifts because a group I was a part of on Steam was doing a giveaway here. And wow - I've been stuck up here ever since.

Downloaded Steam in 2012 because I wanted to play Black Mesa. Never used it again until two years later when I bought the Tomb Raider collection - that was just the beginning of course. At the same time, I joined steamgifts after a friend recommended it to me, seeing as my account was eligible by then. Stayed because a lot of people seemed cool, and of course to partake in the spirit of gifting, winning games that usually stay untouched in the library, adding people to blacklist because of their gratitude and always choosing the potato option in polls. (i remember there was a guy with a Dolan avatar around; he seemed pretty 'important', but haven't seen him in months. what happened to him?)

I resented Steam and only joined when it was required to play Half Life servers with anti-cheat enabled almost 12 years ago.

I also resented Origin and only joined because it was required to play Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.

When I was a kid, I didn't have any money so I used to pirate my games, but soon I realized how wrong that was. I discovered Gamersgate and started taking part in their gametutor program. I helped people with problems they faced with there games and in exchange got points from the site with which I could buy steam games. It took a while but I got some points and bought Arkham Asylum. The game was for GFWL but that shut down when I was half done with the game so GG provided me with a steam code. And that's how Arkham Asylum became my first steam game!

Things escalated quickly after that, I accutualy started buying games and bundles. Couple of months ago I realized that I had a loot of spare key. I wanted to trade them and that lead me to SG. I soon got scammed for some of my best games and decided to gift all that was left.

So I guess here I am!

I joined Steam in 2010. I bought TF2 in order to play with a friend after going multiple times at his place to play it.
For 2 years now i have often purchased humble bundles but sometimes there was games that i already had or didnt want. I recently joined Steamgift in order to give those keys that were just "sitting" there.

I joined steam about a year ago when i was looking at humblebundle's spring discounts. Although i had seen humblebundle before i had never bought something but that day i noticed binding of isaac + wrath dlc was offered for 0,7 or 0,8 euros. A friend of mine had shown it to me a while back so i thought why not. And that's how i ended up with 600 games... Most of them bundles or collections from humblebundle.
I think i found steamgifts through steamdb or something like that and i liked the idea, i already had a ton of unused keys due to bundles so here i am !

I've been avoiding Steam for ages... At first it was "this stupid thing you need for stupid shooters" and later on it was mainly me being active in... eh... certain circles... where DRM was... not that well received... cough And then in the end it was "Will I be able to control my hoarding instincts once I join?"(answer no)...

What finally turned me around not toooo long ago was that I had to go on a 4 weeks training where I would be staying in a room without proper internet access... And thinking about what I wanted on my Laptop for that time I suddenly felt like "Hey, I wanna play portal 2 again!" and so I bought that for steam (through a shady reseller, which I did not really know about at the time) and the rest is history :)

Basically, all you have to know about my SG journey is here :)

And when it comes to Steam I've joined it because one of the games I've bought required it to work. And I don't know now if it was Europa Universalis IV or Mafia II but I would say the latter is more probable :)
