For my niece. Shes tired of sonic all star racing and before you say it no she won't like secret of the magic crystals and besides she won't understand a thing.

Something easy and sandboxy.

I should add that her english isn't very good and castle of illusion was too hard for her so she would need something easy and simple to understand.

Also the game has to be on steam and easy, shes really bad at platformers.

After some consideration I have decided that I will force her to play bad rats.

Scribblenauts Unlimited might be pretty good. What platform(s) are you looking for?

On steam, She doesn't know any english though or good enough to play scribblenauts or else it would have been perfect =\

Ah, okay. Shelter maybe but it might be a bit sad/frustrating
Minecraft (non steam though), Garry's Mod, Don't Starve (probably too hard)

what language does she speak? i think you can change the language settings on scribblenauts. The sims would be a good choice too.

Scribblenauts can be played on many languages ;). Lego Batman and Lego Marvel are somelike sand box. Also another kart-like game can be F1 Race Stars (but bouth sonic karts are far better)

Try 'Cities in Motion 2' or 'Banished' or 'Civilization V'

Civilization V is easy to pick up. Cities in Motion 2 and or Banished may need a little learning. But kids these days are quick to learn any concept.

9 year old is a pretty smart kid.

I remember when I was 9 year old. I was in my fourth grade and opened a book lending business for my classmates (you know Tintin, all the disney's magazines, etc)....you're underestimating 9 year old.

I remember my mother when I was about 6 year old. She was chatting to her friend in the car on how smart I was because I could assemble a simple robot toy........I felt what was the big deal it was crazy simple....silly stupid adults.....they think kids are dumb....

I also remember when I was in kindergarten I entered a drawing competition for kids my age and a little older. Most kids' drawing was too simplistic.....My mother was so proud of my drawing and the next kid's mother was too kind of impressed. But it was .....to me nothing really extraordinary...HONESTLY it was not that good. It was just many other people's drawing was too simplistic, lacking imagination and boldness.

You see kids aren't as simple as people often think, at least some kids.....and I was an ordinary kid too.

Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends should be on sale soon with the ubisoft weekend thing - they are fun platformers, might be a good match for your niece.

Nintendo games, like SNES and NES. I used to play it as a kid. Good thing is you can run them for free on an emulator.

This. But beware of flashing lights (those days, that effect was so popular) and extreme hard ones...

You can try the simple ones.Maybe pokemon red for a start.Or fire red if she want "advanced" graphics. Then you could up the difficulty until something kinda hard like Castlevania 3.Also Legend of Zelda is a good starting game.It was mine :D
