Anyway. I like banana flavoured things but I'm not that fond of actual bananas. Weird, I know.

That's interesting.. Maybe you haven't found the perfect banana yet? I actually like them a bit green. If they ripe too much, they become to mushy and sweet.

But then they're great for freezing and blending into a milkshake. Two frozen bananas, two tablespoons walnuts, and a 1/2 to full cup milk or almond milk (depending how thin you want it and how much liquid your blender needs to be able to blend frozen fruit) is pretty nice on it's own or as a base to add other stuff like a little cocoa powder or frozen strawberries.
Unless bananas are actually rotten to the point of being inedible (which takes longer than you might think) it's never too late to freeze them for something like that.

I agree on you with that. They're really good for a milkshake, especially frozen and with strawberries. Yum!
Also, a simple banana cake can be also made, with chocolate pudding on top and bananas in the middle :)

I do it without milk, just frozen bananas, looks (and tastes) like ice cream :3
Th only downside it that you have to eat it as soon as you blend it or the magic vanishes :(
Sometimes I also add almonds or some other dried fruits/nuts that I may have lying around :)

There are hundreds of different banana cultivars in the world, despite what mass-manufacture of Cavendish bananas would indicate. Artificial banana flavor is based on the Gros Michel cultivar, which used to be the major mass-manufactured banana, but then nearly went exinct from Panama Disease (which Cavendish bananas are resistant to). So no, not actually all that weird. :)
I'm not sure what it's like in the UK, but from what I've seen European stores generally have a better variety of produce than those in the States- though even here, we can get non-Cavendish bananas from certain organic food stores or farmer's markets or similar, at times. Even the organic produce section in certain major stores now sometimes carries a handful of other cultivars, over here. It may be worth making some glances when you go shopping and seeing if any other kind of banana is available for you to try.
