One of my friend permanently banned some weeks ago, because he create an "Ironclads collection" giveaway but he point to "American Civil War" (not found ironclads in dropdown list). The moderator wrote to him, banned because cheating with contribution prices of this game... (1$ bundle key for 10 dollar contribution price. But ACW cheaper than IC....

So, why not a 2.99$ "Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012" cheating? Contribution price is 29.99$... thanks Steamgifts!

Because this is a game that is on sale. Your friend created a giveaway with the wrong game being listed (strike 1) and it was a bundle key (according to what you said, which is strike 2 and 3 at the same time because it's very much against the rules).

If you have a problem, file a support ticket. And treat the support team with respect. They're much nicer and more pleasant and helpful that way. (I'm not saying you didn't, I'm suggesting how to raise your chances at getting cooperation.)

No, the support reply:

"If you read the rules, you'd realize that it's against them to gift individual keys from bundles.
Actually, your ban was for submitting Ironclads as American Civil War, thereby getting $10 contribution value rather than $1."

Ironclads has higher price than ACW...

I remember this. The fellow had asked to trade the collection away on the forums, then made bundle key giveaway with it and filed it under the wrong game apparently for more contributor value.

Okay, then, so he created a giveaway for a game he didn't own in order to get more points than he would have for the game he did have to give away.

Someone who hasn't read the rules might not know that giving away individual game keys from indie bundles is against the rules. It should be plain common sense to know that you should not intentionally lie about the game you're giving away because you get a higher contributor value. One is a mistake, the other is intentional manipulation.

And if RailSimulator.com (the developers and publishers of Railworks 3) want to put their game on for 90% off, that's up to them. If the SteamGifts admin don't want to temporarily (or permanently) lower the points value of Railworks 3, that's up to them. At no time should your friend think that what he did was okay. If he gave away a copy of Railworks 3, on the other hand, he's playing by the rules and just happening to get a nice benefit.

It happens everytime when a new sale starts. You can't forbid to share what they bought for their money. They actually have spent some. Nevermind that this is 3$. When Deus Ex was on sale there was a lot of Deus Ex giveaways. When Sanctum is on sale - there is a lot of Sanctum giveaways. What do you want? Ban them?

Atleast forbid that game until sale end + 1 week...

This only delays the train spam, and as long as people enter the giveaways for the train games- the giveaways are going to be there.

wait... your complaining that 1: people are making giveaways and 2: you are getting more points to spend on games you want... seems legit...

Try it, create a giveaway from some bundle key (not full bundle) what you dont need. If you get BAN, seems legit?

i was unaware it was from a bundle... but it still seems silly to get worked up about something which is impossible to police...

One of my giveaway has been deleted 1 day ago, because some guys say, "it was from bundle" key. Where is the truth? :) And if i want to gift key from other sources? If i bought a single key to create a giveaway or i want to gift a copy from my acc?

I have a friend or two that bought this game for themselves. Some people like trains, so what? People are entering, so obviously not everyone shares the same opinion as you. So suck it up and stop complaining.

Creating giveaways with a 3$ game and get 30$ contribution value is cheating. Huh?

wat?

ATM you buy that game for 3$, but steamgifts calculated contribution value is 30$.

Yes but that is an entirely different thing than the indie-bundles if that's what you are getting at. Those are banned for reasons that are not just "cheap contributor value."

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not different, individual bundle keys banned because you pay ~1$ for a 10$ game...

Permalink

It is different. Certain indie bundles also have it in their agreements that you can't sell/trade individual keys.

How you know i gift key from bundle? :) No clue... but this is a clean cheat. I see you start cheating too...

How old are you? You're very ignorant. "cheating" involves breaking rules, immoral way of achieving a goal, etc. Buying a game on sale from Steam themselves, is neither. If anything, going against the rules of a CHARITY bundle would be deemed immoral.

If you create a giveaway (like now, 3$ game for 30$ contributor value) to be able to enter another high priced contributor giveaways, isnt a cheating? ;)

No, it is not cheating. The game is on sale, people buy, people gift it. Simple. 99% of the gifts in steamgifts are of games that were bought during sales, likely at 75%off discount. Do you consider those cheating too?

There are a lot that don't contribute at all whether it's because they can't or they don't want to. So in that sense, it would probably be even more difficult if not for contributors. There are also other ways like group and puzzle give aways which are usually a better way than contributor.

I think the point is, the OP has never contributed a game to the site, but is complaining about the contributions other people are making.

"Stop giving away games I don't want and give away some games I do!"

Entitled whiners aren't very welcome here, regardless of how long they've had an account.
