Gamepump

What do you guys and gals think of this?
What games would you want to see?

I doubt we will see:

  1. First party Nintendo games.
  2. Anything newer than PS1/N64 era titles.

Yeah but I think the seller here is the guarantee that the games will be new to Steam at least unlike Humble monthly. It will be interesting to see if they actually manage to get decent games and not just shovelware from the 80/90s.

And it's kind of tempting... until you remember all of those games will get bundled one day... and you'll be able to chose which to get.

So, it's GOG as a subscription service? Where you don't even get to pick which old-ass games you want?

The intro price is low enough for me to bite. I don't mind giving it a go and it seems like a decent idea.

These blind subscription services are terrible for consumers. It's the same as pre-ordering games, only with more risk involved. This service in particular seems pretty awful as well, they don't give a single example of a game that we can expect. It's literally giving them money because they said so.

Hard pass.

Is it just me, or is it a little suspicious that I can't find any information about the operating company "Super Villain Incorporated" other than a "super villain reality" webshow with website design exactly the same as Gamepump's site?

EDIT: Hmm... Looking at the cast list for Super Villain Incorporated, I'm seeing Andy Milder, Robert Bowling, Roger Cross, and Don McManus. If this is them, my suspicions have fallen quite a bit.

Interesting idea! I like that they will be offering DRM-Free versions of the games. I may end up subscribing for a year since the cost of entry is pretty reasonable and I highly support these types of legitimate business efforts to preserve and update classic games for modern hardware compatibility, although I am keeping expectations very low with respect to which games might actually be released.

I would hope they also maybe do some publishing and distribution through services like GOG after the initial reveals -- it would seem to make a lot of sense from a financial and preservation standpoint. Or maybe if they plan to launch their own storefront at some point?

Sounds cool but -- if they're getting them on Steam anyway, I'll just wait and buy the ones I want?
