Due to the state of the island, my brother's company closed their San Juan location and moved him to their HQ in Chicago last spring.

The throat is a much easier target since no one defends it.
It's softer tissue, can lead to extreme trouble breathing, and is a much more efficient way of taking down an opponent.
In this case, though, it's more because it prevents speaking for a long while afterward. ;)
