Mr SteamDB, Pavel Djundik, reveals on Twitter that Valve now wants you more loyal and is working on a new program that will offer users points and rewards (badges, discounts, etc.).

searching deep in Steam he also found that "loyal members" will be able to "react" tagging user reviews with terms like "hot take", "deep thoughts", "hilarious" and... "poetry"

a random "reaction":

-50 loyalty points if you have Epic Games Store installed

Sounds like a permanent event, lets hope there are more tangible prizes than just more meta goodies.
I'm kinda burned out of digital goods after Steam introduced cards, and levels, and badges, and event tokens, and craftable stickers, and consumable effects...

might as well get rewarded for it :)

thx for the PSA icaio!

Well, if I automatically get points and rewards that would benefit me in ways it wouldnt do otherwise, I cant really say I see a problem with it. But I sure hope its something I would like, and not just meaningless emojis or some other shit. (unless I can sell them for steam wallet)

Those "loyalty" features, if they're true, are just a way to generate more business.
Don't be fooled into thinking Steam cares about your person.

Duh, you mean there are loyalty programs out there, that don't aim to generate more business?

Don't be fooled into thinking Steam cares about your person.

They probably care about you more than you think, at least they care about your money for sure, so they care about you in a way.

Please read my post again. All I said was that those feautures, IMO, are only meant to reward people who spend money in the store. You won't get rewarded for only using the platform to play your games.

They probably care about you more than you think, at least they care about your money for sure, so they care about you in a way.

Then why isn't support better than it is? How do they expect people to keep spending more and more in their store and fattening their profits when 99% of response people get from support are automated replies?
To get people more loyal, all they need to do is offer deals as good as the competition and honest support. And I still wonder why Steam is still not offering cheap bundles like HB or Fanatical.

Now that's a thought. What if there's part of the program that does interact with playing games from the steam client? What would be your opinion on this?

Then that would be a positive thing!
Just like on SG, many people can't afford (especially now) to spend a lot of money on games but that doesn't mean they're not loyal.
Only giving certain features to the big spenders would only divide players, just like subscriptions for online access on consoles do. Giving some discounts (stackable with sales) to all users would make more games accessible to players with a low income (and help fight piracy a little).
Anyway, it's still speculation.

but that doesn't mean they're not loyal.

You're right, but like I wrote below there is already cards and booster for playing your games (and leveling your profile).
It's not much but still better than nothing. And when you see people having dozens and dozens of alt accounts farming the trading cards, even tho I'm against such practice, it looks like it's worth it for them.

Haha, that's true. And yeah, piracy isn't the best for games. Nearly everything I've pirated have been games over a decade old on consoles not produced anymore, so they really aren't losing revenue but I refuse to use something like a switch emulator out of morality, cheaper games that people want is always nice. Hope you have a nice day!

Trading cards and booster drop is already part of this I think.
I don't understand what's the point whining about things not even released yet or things that could have been not there in the first place.
A loyalty program is not like they put a gun on your head and tell you to give everything you have or you'll die.
It's only a bonus (even if it's the worst bonus ever). I think it won't do much for the average customer (or change their behavior), but it's always nice to reward the "big" spenders.

Hm, I see. I feel like booster farming was never intentional but like 90% of life it was never patched cause it doesn't really matter. Thanks for the opinion, it's always interesting seeing different viewpoints

imo, getting more money/more business is simpler than achieving loyalty.
you get loyalty only if you care about your users/customers. not that easy and it takes time.

Another way to get people to buy games directly from the Steam store instead of key stores, I'm sure. Not a bad idea if they do it right.

and another way to control the reviews and feedbacks. people will literally pay to give more visibility to reviews while others will be left far in the bottom of the pile. most likely to do this are "positive reviews people" and shills

I hope it doesn't actually overpower other reviews with this new function, but it would be sad if it did. Review bombing a game unfairly is never good, whether it's negative or positive

Not sure how I feel about that... For now, it looks rather pointless to me. More badges and the ability to react to reviews? Erm... that's pretty useless. Discounts? Sure, I'd be down for that. But if it's anything like what we saw in past events, only the biggest spenders would get them. I can totally see points having an expiry date... preventing people who spend less from stacking them until they have enough to redeem, say, a $5 off coupon.

This game really sucked,
And it lagged quite horribly,
By Jason I'd rather be chopped,
Then play this game quite miserably.

Merci, Merci, tip your waitresses and all that. XD

I do think I'd like to see what it is, so until then I'll hold off any disparaging comments. Build 'em up and all, worse case the program turns out to be good and I can go [insert expletive here] about Borderlands 3's shoddy writing and lore expansions... Well, lack of them, at least from what I've heard, finally buckled down to give it a whirl... [/Side Rant]

You want loyalty? Make your games DRM-free. All of them. Features and social media crap are neat and all, but actually owning the games that I've bought is pretty high on my list.

Yeah, yeah; -812 Loyalty Points +8 surly old cynic points

I wonder if it'll be retroactive in any way? A bit like the Chinese New Year tokens, for example.

I used to buy quite a few things on Steam, less nowadays. Would be nice to get loyalty rewards for past loyalty... although I get how that might defeat the purpose altogether. :P

Why aren't they dedicated to making better offers and better events?
There was never anything like the event of the coals for example...

Steam events and ideas are getting worse ...

Removing gifts, removing tradeable keys from cs go ...
And do inconsequential things like these loyality thing.

At this rate, whether we like it or not Epic will end up going over it.

I love this platform but seriously they should take care more of the consumers...
