Does mosquitoes have to exist?
If a god really exists, for sure it created the world, and after that all was done it said: lets f*** them up, and it created the damn mosquito XD

All-in-all, they're considered a major player of the food cycle in many regions.
Those regions aren't typically urban ones, however, where the entire "food cycle" typically ends up being something along the lines of Mosquitos eat humans, pets, and livestock. Humans spray pesticides to reduce mosquito populations. Humans catch corona. Repeat. Basically, the issue with mosquitos existing is mostly a geographic one. :P

According to my lovely grandmother, suffering is the sole purpose of our existence (well, that, and also procreation in order to have a personal slave in old age). I guess, mosquitoes exist exactly for that: to facilitate our misery.

They are a keystone species; without them, massive amounts of species would go extinct. Which of course would cause others to go extinct, so on and so on.
As to WHY they exist, because they evolved. Nature didn't consider humans dislike of them millions of years ago. Very rude.

Clearly, mosquitos exist to remind us that humans aren't the only bloodsuckers around. Rather, the real question is, why do bedbugs exist? To remind us that humans had the chance to shut down an awful circumstance and managed to bungle it? Pretty sure we've got that well covered in our history already. So how about that escalating pandemic, then?
( For those that haven't experienced bedbugs (you lucky souls), just imagine a few hundred (or thousand) tiny mosquitos that are each five times as annoying/itchy as a normal mosquito, crawling all over your bed as you sleep. Now imagine that they're all but unkillable, to a "Superman can only be killed by Kryptonite and the Gods" degree. Congratulations, you've discovered bed bugs. Or possibly the bedchambers of Hell itself. )
